I plan on using a custom propel/blower setup for the S class. The ballast tank is custom built for the S class hull. (It goes the full beam of the hull and is only 3 inches thick with a flat top) I am going for maximum waterline stability.

Finally, some progress to post.

Finally, some progress to post. I am starting to get the ballast system worked out. Many thanks to BIGDAVE for the help. Now, I can finish up details that were on hold. Stern linkages are finished. Used some CF rod to keep them stiff without any supports. The internal linkages are all rotary output with an additional support bushing about 1" away from the BHS. This keeps everything from getting loose and sloppy. Another photo shows a micro swith and linkage to shut the radio down while in the water. With my big boats, I like to leave them in the lake using a mooring anchor. Last photo shows the battery wtc. It will hold a custom built 10 cell 4600nimh pack and sits at the bottom of the keel with a bit of room for sheet lead below. Ballast system details are next. Looks like it will be a traditional RCABS setup. More to follow.

Its in the water! Sea

Its in the water! Sea trials went really well. Still had it trimmed a bit light to be safe. Get about 5 full Propel blows and unlimited with the snort pump. One thing I noticed. My BE-VR got pretty hot. Is this normal? I dont remember it getting beyond warm with other models.

Depends on how much current

Depends on how much current you have going through it, and also how much voltage it's dropping down from. The higher the voltage, the less current the regulator can deliver and the more power it has to dissipate in heat.

Exceptions to this are switch mode BEC's which are more efficient and work with a wider range of voltages without losing current capacity as the voltage rises.

I don't have one of the BEC's you're talking about, so I don't know what regulator they use in them, but would hazard a guess that it's something along the lines of a LM2940, and they should be able to handle 1A of current, although this may decrease a bit if you're running a 12 volt system.
