    New hull plug.

Just wanted to show a new hull plug I made using Steve Neill's method, and the glove mold I made from it. The glove mold is made from a thin stretchy rubber. The outer support (mother) mold gives it rigidity during the molding process. The rubber is removed from the part just like taking off a glove. It is a very cool process. BD.

    Hi dave,

what material did you make the outer shell out of ?

I'm considering gypsum with straw, but it will be far from
"portable". a thinner alternative might help.

another question : did you use registration bumps between rubber and
    hard shell ?

    Hmmm, that shape looks uncomfortable

      Hi Ronald,
I used an item called Plasti-Paste by Smooth-on. It is a two part plastic material with chopped fiberglass in it. You trowel it on the outside of the rubber to make the shell mother mold. You have to work fast as it gels up in about 8 minutes. I did not use any registration bumps. Just trimmed the bottom of the rubber so it was not exactly round so the shell half’s only fit on one way. BD.

          I like that Andy!!
But actually it will be called the "Water Slider".
It is a design I am working on for a small high-speed very maneuverable submarine. It is kind of a menacing shape. .BD.

Wow! That is very similar to my design. Very cool Andy!! I wish I could speak German.
My tech rack is very different, I have X-tails on mine, and my sub is smaller, but the design is close.
I did this half a**ed drawing a few months back of how I wanted it to look.
Please don't laugh to hard. I need to get my buddy Seahorse to draw me up something better. BD.

                    Yes that's what I thought

Yes that's what I thought too. The canopy will add a bit of character, at the expense of a bit of drag- at least you'll be able to see if you have it the right way up!

                          Hi All,
Sorry I have not posted in a while. Been Busy Busy!!
I did want to show a photo of some progress I have made on my WaterSlider project.
It is looking close to my concept drawing. The front and rear sections screw together with an O-ring seal. Similar to the little Delphin sub if you have seen that one.
I wanted to think of it as a 3D plane for the water. Not much room in the stern section so I ran the linkages on the outside just like the 3D planes.
The linkages and X-tails are easily replaceable from the outside in case of damage. And as anyone will tell you that has seen me run a sub, there will be damage!! .

I can't wait to get her in the water for a try. Check out the two photos and see where I have placed the canopy. I am still undecided where it will go. It is about 50/50 now for everyone I have asked. I will show some photos of the propulsion system and the tech rack when it is done. BD.

If you wanted to add a bit of character, how about making the canopy a split-screen like a VW Type-2 bus?
