          OK , finally I recieved

OK , finally I recieved the motor and they are ready to install.
Here you can see the two motors and the pinion gears. But instead of Ca I am going to use red locktight.

          Thatll larn ya darn ya!
But first I took a dremel tool to the shafts to rough them up and a drill bit to the insides of the gears. Laquer thinner was used to clean up the parts and then let dry before applying the locktight. Now lets look at the motor mounts.
Its easy to see the evidence of a smoked motor by the discoloration of the plastic on one side. It didnt hurt anything though. Next I rough up the areas of the motor cans that will come in contact with the motor mount and use GOOP to make the attachment.

After the attachment is done it will be time to put everything back together again and get it in the water for some more testing. But first take note of this.

If you can zero in on this you can see the gears inside the endcap that the pinions mesh with to provide the 3 to 1 gear reduction that helps make this thing work.

Everything was re-assembled and tested in the test tank. So far it looks good! The next phase of testing will be at the Devils Den on Sunday Jan. 25th. I will fill you in. I hope to have some good video of the ocassion to share with you.

              ok well, some of you

ok well, some of you will say I told you so but, the two new motors burned up quicker than the last two. Go figure that. So I promptly ordered the big guns. I ordered the twelve volt motors and two mini servos. Once they arrive I will begin installation. In the meantime at least we took a couple of good shots.

Notice the intense concentration on my face , now thats dedication to the sport.

You can see here how it sits a little low in the stern, not too bad though.

Other than a slightly bent periscope it looks pretty good. Starboard to port balance also seems good.

Dont worry, Kowalski and the Chief are inside working hard to fix the errant powerplant, the world is depending on them!
              until next time.

                    The new 12 volt motors

The new 12 volt motors worked much better that the earlier motors except that they do get hot after a half hour of steady running. Whats my next move? Try to control the heat. I am going to replace the plastic motor mounts with a aluminum one that will not melt and will serve as a heat sink. The original motors were glued in. Using the new mount the motors will be held in by 2.5 mm. screws. Also I will use a piece of copper pipe to heat sink the motors by wraping it around the motors. We all know of the tremendous ability of copper to be a heat exchanger. We will try this first and see how well it works before we do anything else. Also now that I have more seat time with this sub, manuevering it is becoming second nature. However I still plan on activating the sail planes to increase its manueverability. Soon!

Here are the new 12 volt motors from Hobby Lobby.

                        Installed.

As far as the sail planes go I freed them up as you can see and am making plans to move forward with it. While I was at it I decided to burn up some more film.

                              Junglelord, your seawolf is looking

Junglelord, your seawolf is looking good. I would like to here how it runs. As far as the Rick Teskey Seaview is concerned it is 52" long. As far as its weight I really dont know. I would guess about twenty pounds. 12 years ago when I entered into my second marriage I brought with me into the new house a bathroom scale. While I was at work my new wife threw it away. You see she was concious of her weight and did not want a scale in the house to remind her of it. Not that she is fat mind you , just overly concerned with her weight you see. Long story short I dont have a scale. If its really important to you I will find a way to get a weight figure for you.

PS discussing manta bow fins with Mr Merriman, how do you get yours not to nose dive? Is it the extra external fins on the nicelles?
