I am in the process of installing the r/x in my Gato and am wondering about my antenna hookup which will be running beside my air pump or maybe touching it,will this interfer with the reception in any way. Thanks ahead of time for an answer.

Hi TD,
Although it is never a good practice to run antennas by motors I run my antenna up to the front pressure vessel chamber and have had no problems. I did run mine outside in my 212 cylinder which is basically the same as the Gato, just smaller. It works well too. I ran it in a length of golden rod and sealed the end with RTV. I will find a photo. BD.

Hi Dave,
In my Type VII I ran it outside in the wet and had no problems. With the Gato I mounted the R/X where you show it and plan to exit the WTC at EC3 bulkhead to the outside,so that I can break down the wtc when ever it needs to be serviced without tearing the whole system apart. The antenna must pass the air pump to get to EC3.Is there a way to insulate the antenna from this noise problem.I added an extension to the pump/Clippard mount to mount the r/x to.So I have to exit the wtc through EC3 so that I can mount the rest of the antenna to the inside of the outer hull.I used this method in the Type VII and it has worked very well for me.
Could I just loosely mount the antenna inside the wtc center section and still have good coverage.

Hi TD,
I hope you are not getting this white c--p that seems to be falling from the sky this morning. .
There is no good way to insulate the antenna.
In the 212 I ran mine out the cap that would be EC4 in the Gato. But this would be hard to do in the Gato as the cylinder is installed in two sections.
The main thing is to have the antenna stretched out as much as possible. You would only get interference when the pump was running if you get it at all. I did not get any in mine.
Try running the pump with the antenna going buy it and see if you do. You said you purchased the same R/X as I had and it is very good at noise rejection.
Hope you had a great Turkey day!! BD.

Well TD,
I have been doing a lot of writing to Mom this morning as this white c--p is still falling.
Please send photos when you can. Can't wait to see your paint job. You did a great job on the VIIc. BD.

I believe it was the USS Balao. I have a picture of her sitting pier side all dressed up in pink if your interested. It doesn't show much detail though.
Don
Don,
Yes I would be very interested,I have a few ideas but nothing is in stone.
Jeff,
Thankyou, now I have something to go on.As I said to Don nothing is in stone and I still have a ways to go.Now at least I can get my reasearch going.
Did the Pink version have a water line or was it pink all the way down.
TD
Thanks Jeff,
As for the color,do you think that the color Desert Pink that they used on the Liberators that flew out of Tunisa during the war would be a close match,it doesn`t have to be perfect, just close.

Just mix red primer and white primer... Actually it was a darker pink than the one used on bombers:
Balao in pink (from http://www.submarinesailor.com/)
Yes, it was pink from the waterline up. Another nice addition to a model depicting that boat would be a smoking device puffing on the starboard exhaust. I love that movie!
Here's a color photo of the USS Balao and USS Archerfish tied up side-by-side at the dock at the time of the filming. (click on the image for a larger version)
The shade of pink can be seen to be fairly dark. Pablo's suggestion of mixing red (primer) and white is a very good one if you cannot find the right shade of pink.
