    32nd P. type XXIII ?

Anyone ever installed a Dave Manley 3.250" WTC single shaft, in a 32nd P. type XXIII hull, or do they know if this will fit. I understand Small World Models is closed for moving right now, I did e-mail them as well. thanks in advance. Jeff Jones

    Jeff- I've had very good

Jeff- I've had very good luck with running a 3" inch tube in my #32 P. Type XX111 for many many years now, works great and just fits like a glove. I'm not sure if Dave is making a 3'inch tube at the present time. I know he's been busy being a new father. Best Wishes on your project Mike Dory

      Jeff ,I have one in

Jeff ,I have one in my Small World Laf .class sub. I will take it out tomorrow and try it in the hull but I dont think it will fit.The 3 inch D&E is a perfect fit in this hull, it wedges in tight and with the split wtc and the ballast tank in the center it is easier to trim the sub.

I will try the SWM wtc in the other XXIIIs and see how it fits ,if it fits I will post some pictures for you to see.

        Jeff - I use a D&E 3.0 in my 32nd P Type XXIII. Fits like a glove - works like a charm.

          ....

          thanks Tim and Jim,
With the D&E 3", can you add an extra servo for the fwd planes? Looks like this is the way I am going to go on this boat. Its been sitting for 2 long and with 3 sub projects in and out of work in the basement, something has got to get finished.. lol. thanks Jeff Jones

            An additional servo can be

An additional servo can be installed in the forward dry compartment of the 3.0 WTC from D&E. You will need to install a BHS shaft seal (or equivalent), but that's a straight-forward task.

Jeff ,I put a servo in the nose of the XXIII in the wet section and waterproofed it.I run the wire through the end cap of the wtc and it works perfect for me .I have sealed several servos this way and only had one go bad . Its easy to do and saves space in the wtc also alot easier to adjust if needed.

Oh yea I am going out right now to try the SWM wtc in the XXIII hull. I will keep you posted.

                ...

                hi Jim,
Awesome, thanks for getting back to me so fast on this..... I had water proofed a servo for my fwd dive planes on my first sub. It lasted about 6 years until I sold it, thanks again. Would also try to add the torpedos like Mike Dory did in his type XXIII using just one servo to fire both torps, thanks Jeff Jones

                      I mounted

                      Hi Jeff -
I mounted a mini servo on the forward endcap with a piece of brass bent into a mounting bracket. As Jeff L mentioned, you need to add a through-hull shaft seal for the push rod.

I control depth with the bow planes. The stern planes are just run by the APC leveller. Best working sub I have!

Thanks alot Tim and Jim for the detailed photos, I think I have enough spare parts for a complete sub minus the WTC itself. With all this info on this boat you guys provided, you may bring this kit back into production... lol . Will keep you posted on my progress. Jeff Jones
