    Why won't my submarine surface?

I'm sure there are a lot of reasons ... and if you want to identify some of your stories feel free.

This one made me laugh when I went to rescue it.

To protect the innocent I will leave the captain anonymous, and won't mention that his 3 letter name starts and ends with a b, and he has a middle initial of o.

This occurred in 7 feet of water.

Yes I have been known to stage photo's in the past to get the shot ... but this is the real deal folks.

To be fair to the captain ... this thing is a rocket, and he was doing a speed run when it occurred.

    Cheers

The water is so clear! Which lake is this? 7ft? Nice, my WTC cant pass 5ft of water. Must have been going really fast.

      One of

      Nice photo

One of the occasions when my Nautilus failed to surface I did a systematic line search of the entire boating pool floor with the help of some friends, and we still somehow failed to locate her. ...After about 3 hours (when I had given up hope of ever seeing her again) she finally bumped into one of my friends still out in the water. The whole time she had been bumping and scraping along the bottom in a wide circle, which is why my logical sweep pattern didn't work. ..she wasn't fitted with a subsafe!!

I also remember a different occasion when a friends LA failed to surface, even with a subsafe system. When he finally located his sub he discovered it had driven into a submerged shopping trolly which the local kids must have dumped! The ballast tanks had blown but she was stuck in an underwater cage. Kids!

        Steve,

Glad to hear both subs were recovered okay.

          Yeah, thanks BC.
          We are

          Yeah, thanks BC.
We are fortunate that our local boating lake is man made and flat bottomed, so if the worst happens it's on with the chest waders and walk 'till you feel the downed sub with your foot. I'm happy to say total loss of control has been rare. Most malfunctions have ended up with the sub just drifting dead on the surface. It is surprising how much flooding my sub has actually survived and still come home to the bank, e.g. where upon inspection once the engine room was found to be half full of water!! without impairing the drive motor it seems.
