    New Micro-ESC

    In the world of Micro F/W speed controls or Micro-ESC’s we do not have a lot of options. Well we have a new entrant into this field the Mtroniks Micro-Viper Marine.
    They are finally being imported into the country by Hobby People. I have been testing one for the past few days and really like it.
    I have always liked the Mtroniks line of ESC’s but they were marginal to fit in the small cylinders. I have been using the Novak SPY. The SPY is a great unit and I love it. It fits and operates well but the Viper Micro has a few features that make it better for model sub use.
    It is smaller, waterproof, and has the failsafe feature. The cost is also cheaper, but this should not factor into the decision. RIGHT!! I actually do mean this, as price is no substitute for quality.
    Both the ESC’s are high quality units and have excellent low speed priority. I also show the Sanwa ES-01 ESC which I do not believe is still available. It was a small size but the low speed was poor. The Viper is .353 cubic inch, the ES-01 .445 cubic inch, and the SPY .511 cubic inches. The SPY does have a higher current rating 25 Amps. Ten amps for the Viper. They both will operate down to 4.8 volts, which can make a big difference finding batteries for some smaller subs.
    I just wanted to pass this along for anyone building a small sub. BD.

    Here are some ESC to compare with the Viper.

    Dave,

    Most (if not all) micro

    Dave,

    Most (if not all) micro ESC's don't have a reverse. Since this is a marine ESC, does it actually have a reverse?

    Thanks,

    Carl

      I'm with Dave on these

      I'm with Dave on these Mtronik ESCs. I started using them about 3 years ago and they are *rock* solid. Mtronik has a whole line of ESCs that are reversible and waterproof.

      The Micro-Viper Marine 10 has the following specs (taken from the Mtronik web site located at: http://www.mtroniks.net/mtroniks_SC_...ubCategoryID=3)] * NEW built in failsafe to protect against complete loss of signal or when out of range (compatible with all manufacturers receivers)**INDUSTRY FIRST**
      * ABSOLUTE short circuit and motor overload protection
      * 10A current limit
      * Dual core microprocessor
      * 4.8-12Volts input voltage
      * Adjustable features include programmable reverse (including disable) & programmable brakes
      * Incorporates a 1.2A BEC
      * 4 Layer super power circuit board
      * Thermal integrated protection system
      * Digital one touchset up
      * Legendary 100% waterproof design
      * Dimensions : L26.0mm x W25.6.0mm x H9.0mm
      * Weight : 15g[/list]
      I think if you try one, you'll definitely like it!

        Thanks Jeff. http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_biggrin.gif
        As a

        Thanks Jeff.
        As a test I pulled the Viper-15 out of my Gato, which is what I designed the cylinder for, and put the Viper-10 in. There was no change in operation. Control was just as smooth.
        I would still use the 15 in the Gato as a little extra current handling never hurts, and there is not much price difference.
        The Mtronik line also has the strongest BEC's I have seen. Two people I know burned up servos when they stalled out. Showing if the BEC can supply enough current to melt the servo without burning up itself it is built very well. BD.

            Thanks for the info on

            Thanks for the info on that Viper ESC! One of them may find its way into my Revell VIIC, once I have an opportunity to start the conversion project on it.
