Ya, that wasn't too cool. I should mix it up with him in the tank-of-a-hull I've got on my Seawolf. You know, the 1/4" hull. Bait him into ramming me, and his boat will break for sure.

Man stand down is primo

Man stand down is primo sub build time. Im juggling 3 projects and im still bored!

Today was fun. I mounted up the drive line for the boat and attatched the the upper and lower rudders.
I started out by finding the center of the tail and drilling it out with a 1/4" bit. Then I filed the hole to accept the brass tube that I am using as a guide and journal bearing. Then i put the shaft through and connected it to the drive dog bone and used a rubber stopper to help set the shaft level and center. Then I used CA to lock the aft tube in place.



Next I measured how tall i would need the next shaft mount to be. The i grabbed one of the half circles that was left over from making the WTC mounting brackets and cut it to height. Then i used the table sander to bring it to a good fit where i wanted my mount. Then i cut two notches in it to allow controll rods and water to move freely and i glued it in.





Next i marked where the shaft would pass through my mount and i drilled a 1/4 " hole to insert another journal bearing made from 2 brass tubes all close fitting.



Now everything is all hooked up with two lock collars to prevent axial thrust and transfer the thrust to the hull.



And a look at the rudders installed.

Went crazy and attatched the

Went crazy and attatched the stern planes today. I wanted it to look correct so they are all attatched at the right location but this means the rods for the controll surfaces all meet in one spot and its really tight. What a nightmare!! Any one know a good way to to get the yokes in there. I have some ideas but its going to be TIGHT!

2 Days late and i

2 Days late and i finally figured this thing out and got all of the planes working. The hardest part was the confines space and after that i had trouble getting rid of slack in the lines. In other words the stern planes would move in unison but when i took it back to neutral one of them would be offset. No good. I also cut a small section of the top tail off to be epoxied to the back. I did this to give the stern tube strength and so I would be able to remove the top rudder for servicing or repairs. HA HA HA no more having to work in tight little crappy places. I just pull the whole thing apart!

Been away from this thread

Been away from this thread for awhile but that doest mean there hasnt been progress.

The reason I havent been posting is because ive been ballasting. Ive decided I hate ballasting. I did it in my kids tub (to her dislike) and it took me way to long in my opinion. My problem was I could get the boat all ballasted out for surface running but once i flooded the tank the front end would make a mad dash for the bottom and i couldnt figure it out. So, i posted on the boards and the answer was stupid obvious. Foam above the water line! So i went back and broke off some blue foam and tada were trimmed out. Next step was the pool.

Well it wasnt the biggest pool ever but it was big enough to show me my turning radius suck bad. This boat cant turn unless it really is in the ocean. If you want to turn while on a backing bell forget about it your wasting your time. Anyway i did alot of 3 point turns and even a few submerged passes and the ballasting seems good enough. Maybe a little to heavy submerged but i can deal with that for now. I was also able to tune up my control rods because they were sticking and preventing the rudders and planes from centering.

Once home I completely fixed all my handling problem (except turning radius). This involved removing one of the stern planes and gringind down some rods so they wouldnt rub the shaft. I also gave the whole boat a shot of primer gray and attatched the sail and periscopes.
