Just thought i would show a few pics as I go of the assemembly of my Scale ships Akula Hull.

So far jsut been drilling and filling holes. Ive also been preparing the brass detailing to go into the vent holes.

well i wish i could

well i wish i could say i made the brass detailing but, this kit comes with everything. Its very accurate and detailed. Well worth the money and a good value kit as far as im concearned. I still want your sierra

Any particular size you want

Any particular size you want that Sierra in? Maybe go for 1:48?

I don't think I could make anything smaller than 60" long. I would end up putting it down someplace and losing it.

Never mind, I speak fluent Russian . Although to type their characters is a big problem - I have to use on-screen keyboard .

I will consider buying one, however I have now 2 models in construction...

To make things clearer,
Vladimr is a subcommittee member. He makes, in my opinion, the most accurate Akula kit on the market.
It is technically correct, comes with the brass etching, prop, and rudders installed on the shafts already, and a nice decal set.
I was fortunate to get one of these hulls, and am looking forwad to building later. First, other projects are in the way.
Vladimr showed me pictures of some masts for his new Oscar class, also in 1/96. It looks like another high quality kit also.
Between McCloud and Vladimr, you now have a choice on the 1/96 Oscars.
The Akula kit is impressive. You can even order it in two different thicknesses also. One for wet hull, thicker for dry hull building.

I built the AkulaII

Hello everyone, about 8 months ago I ordered an Akula II from my friend Vladamir and it arived perfect and in a few days, I have posted the almost completed model in the New products board and what a beutyfull model it is! Well worth the money.
Today I enjoy her very much and get endless praises where ever she goes.
Also taday I have ordered the first OscarII from him and I am sure I wont be disapointed,the level of wormanship and quality in these kits is trully outstanding.Wait till you see the prop and the masts!
Ill post my Oscar II when it arrives. Beware my Engel Master series Typhoon that is on the ways now is armed with missles and torpedoes as will be the Carrier Killer Oscar II.Both will feature the onboard air compressor ballast sytem,Cylon Haker batteries,hydralic masts and doors and retractable positioning pods that operate,as well as retracting diveplanes.

Progress is slow but we

Progress is slow but we are moving along at a pace. All the holes are cut in the hull and the brass detailing installed. Also started cleaning up the edges so the two halves mate up pretty.

Well ive been delinquent on

Well ive been delinquent on this boat for a bit because of the regatta and patrol so its time to do some work and an update.

I have since constructed the ribbing to hold the wtc out of black 1/4" ABS plastic that i scribed with a compass and cut with a rotor saw. I also drilled holes in them to ensure the water can flow between them decently. I did not however make a hole at the very center line of them. My reasoning was that with so many vents it would not be a problem. What do you guys think?

As for how to hold the WTC in place I have set it up to use a simple rubber band to hold it in but I am contemplateing brass strapping instead.

I have also cut the tail off in preparation to install the dive planes and rudders but first I will install the shaft components. What is the best way to do thise? Should i use a bearing? If so what kind ets.. I was planning on just using a brass tube and then two collets to transfer the axial thrust to the hull of the craft.

A shot of my ribbing these were my 3rd attemp. It would seem the boat is not a perfect circle like i cut ribbing.

No the boat comes in

No the boat comes in black but i have heard of people getting them in white and grey aswell. I painted a quick coat of primer to help showw the defects and where i needed to add filler. There a bunch especially where the brass detail is.

My seawolf will be sea worthy soon pete! Besided Dave Meriam did a good job at tearing my akula up with the permit
