Does anyone have experience with using cast acrylic (clear) tubing as a WTC ? From my understanding, it machines better than extruded acrylic (thus more expensive of course) and is cheaper than LEXAN while maintaining all the properties required for a good WTC. I'm looking for a piece 6" in diameter by 4' in length with .25 " wall thickness for my 1:25 type VIIC/41 project. So far, cast acrylic is the easiest for me to obtain and cheapest for what I need, but does run close to $40/foot for this size with the minumum length I can order being 6'.
The machining properties of cast is important to me as I intend on doing quite a bit of work to it in that regard. As well, I can appreciate the convenience of a clear material to keep an "eye" on the components and leakage without cracking the WTC open. I'm assuming that's why guys use clear...for the most part.
Suggestions on a WTC that will be cheaper than $240 (plus S & H....for just the tube never mind the rest of it) yet have the properties I'm looking for ?
Thanks in advance,
Mylo
P.S. I "thought" about the tube that a carpet comes rolled on.....but I suspect that cardboard isn't the best material choice.
