    Typhoon

Ok I have several questions I hope to get answered. I am looking for a Typhoon kit, I believe I'd prefer a 1:150 size, I believe that would be in the 40 inch range. (feel free to correct that if its wrong) I think somebody was going to produce a 150, I don't know if it ever happened. I also believe there is supposed to be a 1:100 but I am not sure who made that either. This company

makes a 1:150 I believe but does anyone know anything about it? Is there an american importer? How much is it? How long is it?

    I did a little more

I did a little more research today, it seems like the Engel kit although of good quality is going to cost over two grand. I then looked at the KMB kit. It looks ok, however it doesn't look like it is a complete kit. It looks like it is just a nose and tailsection, for around $350 plus shipping. Does anyone know anything? Please help!

      For the money, the Engel

For the money, the Engel is by far the best, both in quality, accuracy and completeness. KMB provides hulls only, no internal components at all, so in that repsect, it is 'roll your own'. IIRC, KMB's hulls are 'stand way-off scale' as well. Though with a kmb hull, you could spread the cost out as you build, cost would/could be equal to or greater than the Engel boat.

        So it appears at this

So it appears at this point that the typhoon might be a better 2nd project. I have been looking into the Akulas. I am interested in one made by Sheerline Model Submarines. It sounds like its a fairly small company, but that they put out a good product. Has anybody here dealt with them or seen one? I have found a little info out on them but not there pricing.

The absolute best Akula is available here:

          http://www.scaleships.biz/eng/akula.html

Though you have to supply the WTC and all electronics, this is the most accurate Akula on the market.

The most accurate kit of the Akula, is the one out of Russia by Vladimer. Awsome detail.
As far as the Typhoon goes, Engel has the closest to accurate one I have seen. Yes, it costs a lot of money. Believe me here. It is far better to get the most complete, best hull you can early on. A cheap hull often requires so many hours to finish, the more expensive hull would be cheaper.

At 1:150 the Typhoon should come out at 1.17m and at 1:100 it would be 1.70m

Engel makes the the most accurate Typhoon.

But all 280 odd limber holes are scribed in the wrong place and are the wrong shape. I am just about to start correcting mine Also the tail needs a little work to make it spot on. They will sell you just the hull if you don't want the whole kit, though the cost would be disproportionate to the full kit.

Everybody keeps saying most accurate. Is there a good quality kit that is not as accurate for less money?

This is the only other kit available http://translate.google.com/translate?u ... uage_tools

Site is in French, but they speak English if you want to email them.

The only company selling a hull (not a Kit) at the moment is Keher-Modellbeau at the link you posted.

Copeland Hulls and 32nd Parallel used to produce Typhoon Hulls.

Thats it, limited choice I'm afraid
