    Still wanting to buy 1/72 Sturgeon kit

    Hi guys given that Jaguar got in first and picked one up, just wanted to go on notice and state that I am still looking for a 1/72 Sturgeon kit. Someone's gotta have one out there sitting around? Well heres hoping?
    Have e-mailed SSY again today to see if they are any closer to producing theirs.

      I thought that he only had a Manta hull in his collection??

        I just sold my old

        I just sold my old Manta Hull to Mark Simonson, he had been wanting one bad. I was about to make one when I came across that used hull. I was satisfied with building up my Manta hull, she is a fine kit with a lot of room to play with.

        I had stated that if I sold my Sturgeon, I would make one from scratch! And am now in that process of my own kit build Lee.

            Well that makes three that

            Well that makes three that want the boat, and a bunch of wellwishers, I have even found my first hull section yesterday! I plan to see how fast I can do this one, while keeping it in good order, but only after I finish my KILO or Don's KILO!

            Chris Nutting sent over some surperb drawings to me, those and Greg Sharps stuff, a collage of photo referance material from SP, and having two Great models in my hand at one time I know the boat well.

            I still am Planning to get a some help from David Merriman on this one, but we will haft to see on that one! I am sure he can loan me some info on the boat a ( FOLDER ) and when I say folder, I mean a colection of info on the boat! I will put you down, but keep me up to speed aswell I tend to forget in my old age.

                hey Brian,
                I am a well wisher also, hey, don't put me down for one yet. But if you do make a kit or if this really turns out for you to put them into production, count me in.. I think Mike Driskell would also take one, he served on this class of sub, he had this scale at one time and last I heard was looking for another one in 1/72nd. thanks Jeff Jones

                      I think it depends on how you define "best"....

                      For example, I would tend to say that a Propel-based system requires the least maintenance. I would tend to say that a piston-based system provides the best control over the amount of ballast taken onboard.

                      Personally, I am a fan of the piston-based system due to controllability and am willing to deal with the increase in maintenance.

I would have thought the propel based system would have more maintenance (make sure its not pressureized when storage, make sure its full before you dive etc.) I agree that the piston has more control and thats why im leaning towards it. The propel is either dive or surface.

                          The propel system is just as controllable as the piston system, not just 'dive or surface', and is less maintainence intensive due it's simplicity.
                          Certainly not difficult to empty the tank. Piston tanks are a mechanical device, motor driven, more moving parts, hence more maintainence.
                          I use both and it's just as easy to hover with one system as the other.

                          BTW, this thread has gone way beyond 'subswap' and should be moved to r/c subs.

                            The propel system is just as controllable as the piston system, not just 'dive or surface'....
                            While it may be theoretically possible to control a Propel-based ballast system to the same degree as a piston, I have not seen one to date.

                            In the system that I use for my Seehund, I can achieve absolutely repeatable ballast fill settings every time for a given transmitter control position. (I use a dial with detents so I know exactly when I have the same setting) The control board for the piston counts revolutions of the jack screw to determine the position of the piston....which is how it knows exactly where the piston is at any given time.

                            Oh....one other point about Propel that is not maintenance related. Each tie you use some to blow the ballast tank, you change your trim. This is never a problem with a piston-based system.
