    WTC Placement

Hello again, I have another question. I got my D&E 3.5 today (Thank You Atomic Subs). I looked at the wtc in the sub(Thor Alfa) and am curious about the placement. In Matt's Permit directions he did for his website back when it was up said to put the wtc as far forward as possible. Well that was the 3.0 and only used the 7 cell batteries in the wtc, this one requires a 12v and the only place to put it is in the nose. So should I put the wtc as close to the battery forward or leave some space? Also what is a good water proof 12v battery to purchase? Thanks in advance as usual..

      Greeting - O.K. on placement

Greeting - O.K. on placement of your WTC, Your going to want to place it as cloce to the battery as you can. This will bring your ballast tank just a shade forward of the center of gravity and this is where you will want it. Doing this will help keep your prop and most of your upper rudder down in the water when your surfaced and will greatly add to the boat ability in turning. Reguarding your battery, Your going to want to place floataing foam on both sides of your battery and nearly fill the the area above it. This offsets the effect of having so much weight forward Where batteries are being place out in the water, I use Gel-cell batteries and I cover all the terminals with R.T.V. Silcone. I've run this set up for over 20 years in salt water I'ts worked well for me. Best Wishes on your project Mike Dory

        Here's how I laid mine

Here's how I laid mine out. Gel cell way up forward and as Mike says - tons of foam - including in the forward part of the WTC 3.5 and over the top of the battery. I use a Powersonic gell cell battery and get well over an hour of run time - I think. I have never run it out! Since I only run in fresh water, I haven't put silicone sealer RTC over the terminals - I just glop them up with silicone grease and keep them clean as they do tend to corrode a little.
