    In regard to available receiver

In regard to available receiver space, I note that Engel is now offering a sub-miniature Rx, (similar to GWS), which would fit anywhere on the tech-rack. Though GWS is available on 75mhz and Engel's is not.

      Well some of the problems

Well some of the problems are solved. My BEC problem turned out to be a strange servo problem. I had bought two brand new high torque JR servos, When I mentioned the problem I was having at the hobby shop where I bought them it turns out they have had others returned for the same problem!! Tried some standard Futaba servos and it works fine.

I bought a GWS 8 channel reciever that fits perfectly and works with the Futaba radio I wanted to use. Engel provides a space near the front of the tech-rack (WTC) for the rx. Putting it right next to the motors would probably not be a good idea, and the platform next to the piston tank motor is occupied by the LTR5 pitch control. The picture above may look spacious but that tech rack is largely unpopulated. I do have a lot of u-boat experience especially with smaller models and believe me, even though this is a large model, space inside the WTC is very tight. The bow cap is mostly taken up by a huge pressure sensor leaving only a small space below it for the rx.

I am replacing the included inner pushrods for some brass golden rod types that move much easier. For as well made as the kit is I am surprised Engel considered the included cables acceptable, They where very high friction even greased.

Thanks for all the great suggestions

          Yes. I have got most

Yes. I have got most of the problems sorted and the model is progressing nicely. Another problem I discovered is that as the kit comes, the stern pressure hull cap is pre-assembled with the motors and belt reduction units and after running the motors for just a couple minutes under no load the motors and prop shaft bearings became very hot!! I simply loosened the screws holding the assembly together and it seems to have helped but still gets quite warm. The assembly comes pre-built and lubricated.

There must be quite a bit of friction in the assembly. Is it ballraced at all, or just running in plain sleeve bearings?

                    I believe they use simmerring

I believe they use simmerring seals for the shafts. If they are running dry, it won't do them a lot of good, and will damage the seals after some time.

If the shafts are greased however then it shouldn't make any difference.

                      Please do a write up

Please do a write up for the SCR, that would be great.

Its always helpful to see how others build their kits.

I think the only place to get them if your in the US is direct from Engel themselves. You will only need to pay the pre tax price if you outside the EU. I am building one of their Typhoons. Unlike the Type VII, it does not come with the Techrack and CNC parts, so there is a little bit more to do, but it will build into a very nice sub.

                              Sorry for the slow response.

Sorry for the slow response. The Type VII has taken a back seat to a few other projects including the birth of my first child!! It is still coming along slowly but surely and should be ready for patrol come spring time.

I haven't done anything more with the bearing problem, Simply loosening the screws to the reduction unit case seemed to help a lot.

I did buy my kit directly from Engel and they have been fabulous to deal with. Always fast and friendly.
