Ok maybe im just confussed but...
Is it ok to run batteries outside a sealed compartment in the water??? What is everyone talking about when they say wet and dry?
Yes, but it depends on the battery. The 6 & 12 Volt gel cells are commonly put in the wet part of the hull. Some people have had some success with NiCd and NiMh batteries in the wet side. From what I've seen and heard, LiPo's don't like to get wet.
Wrong. I run Li-poly wet all the time. It's a wise tail. a battery is a battery. In fact they do better because the tabs are nickel or aluminum and don't corrode.
So Right now Im runnin 2 6 cell ni cad batteries and tech i dont even need a battery compartment i could just attachit to the hull wherever i like for ballasting?
Oh Man! Thanks a Ton guy you just saved me a headache of figuring out where water was leaking in my battery comp. Now ill just go without!! Thank you Thank you
[color=#000000]I have been running batteries out in the water for many years. Even with tabs that corrode I seal them with a little silicone. No problems...
What type of motor were you using for this and what material was it made out of. Ive had motors submered and run but they have a tendancy to rust and after awhile and in the end the screech like a banshy. Not to mention Rusting like the dikens. Lately ive tried just coating the motor with a thin coat of silicone and have had some good success, but i cant account for the internals of the motor.
Now running the servos in the water is an intresting idea aswell. You dont think there would be any long term effects to doing and do you think they would operater well at deeper depths outside the hull?
Another question. For those of us running our boats in the pool. How does chlorine effect electronics?
Very interesting thread this!
I can see that with Nicads etc leaving off heatshrink etc will make them easier to dry out but how do you dry motors out?
Unless anybody else disagrees I would say yes if the connections were protected in some way.
In my case thats my setup and I haven`t had any problems.
TD
Yes that will work fine. But on more than one occasion the bag tore and they got completey wet both nimh and li-poly. They continued to function normally.
As Marc did with the motors I dried them out after the days run. No problems. No shorts. No exploding li-poly battery.
thanks steve, i have been focussed on making the batteries fit inside the WTC, but then i got to thinking why? if they are outside i can use the terminals as a switch and also easier to charge them.
