How many Scratch builders - How many scratch builders are members?

    Hello All,

I have been reading KevinMc's build of his Oscar Sub and this brought about a question.

How many Scratch Builders like KevinMc are members of the SubCommittee?

        I've built a 1/32 Nautilus

I've built a 1/32 Nautilus from scratch. I really like scratchbuilding, and I've got a Sci-Fi sub planned for the future along with a scratchbuilt model of the ABC Nautilus.

Details on my Disney Nautilus buildup can be found here]www.rc-sub.com/disneynautilus.html[/url].

...as far as I'm concerned, it does! Other than a hull, I've scatchbuilt just about everything else]

I like the research aspects and it does make it more interesting and more like the design of a full size submarine somehow.

I'm scratch building one as well... I prefer to be creative however so I made my own. Threads on this forum show my progress.

                      Hello Group,

                      I do not mean

                      Hello Group,

I do not mean to insult anyone or make them feel bad about what they do,I just wanted to know how many people there are that build everything.
I noticed that in Kevin's build thread that he used a number of materials for his build.Maybe we need a list created that contains materials that people use, what the materials are used for and where to buy the stuff.
I like the way he made his hull mold, the RTV part of the mold would make removing the hull parts a lot easier and produce better parts.
When I made my sub mold I used marine fiberglass cloth and resin, the mold turned out ok,the hard part was seperating the plug and later the finished Epoxy hull from the mold. The RTV part of the mold should make building a lot easier...........
I would like to be able to make everything from scratch also, however I do not know how to make the electronics or the props/screws for the boats.
A couple of months I decided to make a brass etched deck for my sub and I worked on this for a while, investing a bit of money in the project.I tried the press n peel blue stuff, that did not work because in the process air bubbles were created that caused problems, this stuff might be ok for small parts but not for big pieces like sub decks. In another month or so I will tackle the project again using another method to get the job done, the photo etched process which should produce some real nice work and I will be etching on both sides.

                      Sorry for getting carried away.
                      Thank you for your time,
                      Darle

                        I scratch built my H.L

I scratch built my H.L Hunley and model of deVilleroi's prototype for the Alligator.

Scratchbuilding can be a frustrating excercise but there is nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when the sub is finally in the water and running!

                              I've been a member since

I've been a member since about '97 at which time I started my scratch BLUEBACK. R.G. Walker, Sub Mgr. at OMSI in Portland was very helpful in letting me know the BLUEBACK was on drydock so I could fly up and get photos of all the underwater detail. Since then I've started a USS WILL ROGERS and a VICTOR III. Here's a shot of my BLUEBACK. I have to also thank several other long time SC members for all the help they gave me when I got started building subs.
