I'm thinking about getting into the hobby. I'd like to run my sub in a shallow salt water pond. Will the RC work? If so, is there a preferred manafacturer, model or frequency? Assumming that I flush it with fresh water after running, will I have problems with corrosion?

Suggest you search for this topic - it's been covered a fair amount as I recall.
Even running in seawater seems to be practical if you are prepared to keep antenna in air.
Some idea of how much salinity you have in relation to seawater would enable you to estimate the scale of the R/C reception problem. You could measure conductivity perhaps? But maybe just try receiver in a watertight container. Freshwater is OK for a depth of about 10 feet. Seawater a few inches perhaps.

Mike Dory and Dave Manley know all about running in salt water. Your radio will not recieve under salt water and you have to be sure to constantly rinse your boat's outers with fresh water between runs and then flush the whole boat in fresh water at the end of the day's running. Wood decking can and will go crazy if salt gets into it.
