    Dumas Akula

After bidding on a Dumas Akula on e-bay I decided to check out the specs on the boat and couldn`t find out to much so here I am Can anybody give me an idea on this kit,is it a static diver, can it be made to be a static diver, how is the detail of the boat.I realize that it is a beginner kit but can it be modified to a better level of detail and performance.

    TD,

I have one. Use the dumas 6 volt motor. Subtech seals and your good to go. Runs great one of the best static divers. Holds depth easy. Very smooth and fast with long run times on just a 1500 mah nicad pack.

Be sure to grease the stuffing box each time you take her out to run and you should have no leaks. Mine is bone dry.

Builds easy and fast. I posted a video of it on SP. Here it is]http://sneill.com/akula/akula_3.wmv[/url]

Hope that helps you TD. You can always write to me if you have any trouble.

Nice thing about this boat is you can charge and run all day without and fuss at all. dives with the slightest amount of down planes and doesn't have to be moving fast to do it.

      TD,
      Dittos on what Steve said.

      TD,
Dittos on what Steve said. In addition, if you're interested, back issues 54 and 56 of the SubCommittee Report contain
3 articles covering all you ever might want to know about building, operating, customizing, and converting the kit to
static diver. Big Dave and I both went through several evolutions with this boat. Our current configurations are with
      different versions of RCABS.

                The video should play fine

The video should play fine TD. It does for me. Try right clicking and saving to your hard drive. There's lots of under water shots of the boat moving fast. Alsoi a David Merriman video camera system strapped to it showing it's POV under water.

It's a large file and if you don't have cable it will sometimes take for ever to load.

Tim's right. I use to use ebay a lot and I'd refresh the page and set my stop watch on the 'time to end of auction' or whatever at the end and place my bid a few seconds before it closed. You lose a few, but you stop others out bidding you at the last minute.
