    SCR article on Skydiver.

    Hi folks

I am looking to do an article for SCR on a favourite sci-fi sub, Skydiver, from the UFO TV series. I know various folks have done bits and pieces with respect to looking to build model hulls so I would appreciate any input, references and photos folks would like to see in such an article.

    Thanks

        Like we are going to

[color=#000000]Like we are going to turn down submarine related material for the SCR?? There's been some great articles in the past on Sci-Fi subs.

Besides, maybe your article may answer one of the Great Unanswered Questions for Boomers]

What was it with the purple wigs on the SHADO control ladies??
          Effect of LSD driven ideas?

BTW: last year Tower Records had the UFO series DVD box on sale.

A tactical question: why base Earth space defense in a few one-shot interceptors?

            Hi Gerwalk

Haven't seen the one before. I have the die-cast Product Enterprise, Ltd. Skydiver (and Interceptor and UFO as well) shown here http://www.productenterprise.com/andersondiecast2.html
Just from the image, the Aoshima one appears identical to the Product Enterprise offering.

I have both DVD sets as well as a bunch of the models including mobiles, interceptor and SkyOne. Don't have a model Skydiver though other than the die-cast one.

As a sort of article tease I have attached some photos of the studio model of Skydiver I managed to track down the past couple of years:

            Cheers

                    Good luck with your Skydiver

Good luck with your Skydiver project. I have always liked this one.

I also have the UFO series on DVD. Remastered, WOW it looks sharper and more colourfull than I ever remember it! (Maybe because TV's are better now than they were in the 70's). Really pleased with this set.

Purple wigs - The moonbase girls are the operators of moonbase. (The guys are just the interceptor pilots.) The purple wigs are anti static and also form part of the uniform.
It is an interesting take Gerry Anderson had on the future. He saw women being in important roles, but without loosing thier femininity, instead the glamour was max'd up - note the bit where Lt Gay Ellis pauses at her command console to check her lipstick in a compact mirror she carries with her. LOve it.

Interceptor Missiles - The UFO's could fly in on various different trajectories, so the missile delivery system had to be moveable, hence the interceptors. The missiles themselves were designed more of a high yield/high scatter bomb rather than a direct hit type missile. (More like a nuclear space-depth charge). Also, interestingly, the delivery system must have been capable of around light speed as the interceptors had to recieve guidance info from moonbases computers (just like torpedo's recieving guidance info from a subs onboard target computer ). Then when fired these missiles would reach the target area in seconds whilst the UFO's are still flying at typically "..SOL 3 and reducing."
I think they thought about it quite a lot.

(I'm not really an Anorack. I just loved the show. )
