well stefan, i have been working on my 1/72nd scale Red October. now, the october is 12 inches longer than a regular typhoon, so im not sure where your center of gravity will be. however, a propell ballast system is slightly cheeper and much lighter than your co2 system will be. i would put your balast tank in the middle of the boat and have your trim in front and back. however, if you balast the boat corectly you wont need a trim tank. there is a guy named john and he built a normal typhoon. his website covers scratch building the hull and fiber glassing to final balasting and sea trials. here's the adress.
talking to dave , i will be using only one tank for ballast.
as for the system, i will use compressed air. i only wanted to use refillable co2 tanks as air-tank.
i propably will be using propane tanks.. they hold a high enough pressure... and i have already two with small regulator....
i would love to see some pics of that red-october.... 12 inches longer ? that makes it 9 feet....
any more info?
stephan
i dont have any of the october yet, bet yes, she is a mamouth at 9 ft in length. me and a friend of mine, jerome simon, were talking about bow thrusters for the typhoons to help decrease turning radius. with this huge hull, youll find you can do almost any thing inside due to her large hull. ill have to get back to you with my plans for the bow thrusters on the typhoon though. youll also find you can launch missles out of the hull also. you could use a small compressor inside of your pressure hull also to provide corect air and multiple dives and would be lighter than both the systems we've mentioned.
