Robbe U-47 motor upgrade .......??? - Is it worth the extra dollars........
if you are going to keep the boat as a dynamic diver, the upgrade will actually hinder performance. The dynamic diver needs the speed of the larger motors to get it to dive.
if however, you plan on adding a ballast tank and turning it into a static diver, you can reduce the load on the battery by replacing the speed 600 motors with smaller speed 400 motors. I used the following items to replace my speed 600s..
first the motors]http://hobby-lobby.com/speed400.htm
then the gearboxes]http://hobby-lobby.com/gear400.htm
you will need two of each for a grand total of $77.60 plus shipping.
you of course will need to modify the motor mount bulkhead by drilling new holes that line up with the mounting holes on the new gearboxes instead of the original hole pattern for the speed 600s.
my battery arrangement gives me 13 amp hours of runtime, i can run the boat for at least 3 hours between charges using the speed 400s, don't know how much time the original battery/motor combo gives, never tried to run it that way.
