[color=#000000]Thanks bando40. I've taken a look at the site. They sure look great but I think it may take cubic money to afford them!! How much did you pay? Remember that I will need two motors for my setup. Sure would be nice to find a motor that will do the job without a belt reduction. Perhaps small gearmotors with 3]

              Mike is right..pittmans are great.

Mike is right..pittmans are great. Ted Schulte put two of them in his 32p type VII with a 2.5 to 1 belt reduction and it works great, fantastic run time to. i am now experimenting
with a E-flite 370 outrunner brushless motor in my 1/96 Sturgeon with a 3 to 1 gear box of my own design.

                I like Pittmans a lot

I like Pittmans a lot too. Problem is that the ones that would be large enough are supplied with 24V windings (9000 series). Also, they have sleeve bearings. If I choose to use a belt reduction, they will subjected to considerable long term radial loading because of the belt tension. I think that ball bearings would be preferable. Ball bearings and 12V windings can be ordered but I wonder about the additional cost.

                  Mermaid -
Pitman has many different motor combinations other than 24 volt. Buying from Pitman would certainly be more expensive (min. order quantity) than buying from Dumas or Tower Hobbies. Dumas motors are made by Pitman, btw.

As regards sleeve bearings and side load, my Type XXIII is now 26 years old and has several thousand (yes, thousand) hours on a 6 volt Dumas/Pitman motor on 10 volts with belt drive and has no noticeable wear. Is that a long enough life span? And that motor was used when I got it!

Best advice is to go back and re-read Mike Dory's post. And accept it for what it is - etched in stone solid advice. You won't find a better set up.

Thanks Skip! I guess I'll go with the Pittman/Dumas motors then. I just wonder why it is preferable to run a 6V motor on a 12V system since the motor is also available as a 12V unit.
