What are people's opinions about the Scale Shipyards 1/96 Alfa? How does it compare to Thor's 1/72 Alfa? Anyone have some pictures of their SSY Alfa? Any reviews of this hull kit? What else is required (besides WTC, radio, and other electronics) to make the 1/96 Alfa hull complete?
SSY Alfa? - any thoughts?

I built a SSY Alfa
Petn7-
I built a SSY Alfa as my first boat, years ago. It can have a tighter turning radii of almost any boat out there, is small and very tranportable. I believe Lee is surrently updating his molds to the latest info available. The most challenging part of assembly will be installation of the aft control surfaces (darned tight back there!). She has been a great boat, fun build-up and fun to sail!
SSY Alfa
Best of luck on your project!

33.25 inches is a compromise I might be willing to make on such a splendid looking submarine.
However, Thor's kits seem top notch and very complete, so I wanted to know if the SSY hulls were comparable. I love to build, so extra work is no problem as long as the hull is well designed and crafted. However if things don't fit, like the hull seems don't match or something...I will not put up with that. I assume SSY hulls are very good, I just haven't seen or heard too much about them.
Matt, what sized WTC did you use? would a 3.25 SWM WTC work?

A 3.25" OD x 17"+/-
A 3.25" OD x 17"+/- WTC will pretty much max out usable space inside the hull. This will limit volume and location of trimming foam/lead, but is completely doable. I scratch built a WTC based somewhat upon the Deep Sea Designs 3" design. My hull fit was good, requiring nothing more than a wee bit of filler at the "Z" cut (tweeked a bit by Master Merriman in SCR issue 46. Ah, the good old days!!)

If you've built one at 1]

Thor's hull IS topnotch. Get the Thor hull. It has great detail, is most up-to-date, and can literally be built in no time.1/72 is too large of a scale for me. Smaller the better]http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256185

Throw a D&E WTC 3.5 in it and you will not be disappointed.
It's not that much longer- it's a "back seater" size, and when balanced correctly, is a joy to run.
