          Swallowed my pride & picked

Swallowed my pride & picked up a DVD set at Walmart (which I loathe...). Video transfer is very good. The first episode is actually there twice; once in B&W on the first disc and on the B side of the third DVD, in color. All episodes otherwise are in B&W. The set has half of the first season on it.

I was surprised at how relatively crude the Seaview model was upon viewing. The missile hatches are just round discs glued onto the hull (not scribed or recessed, & no hinge mechanism hinted at). Kind of a shocker to see Adm. Nelson smoking a cigarette in an episode, too. Forgot how common that was in the mid 1960's on TV!

            Tom,

            Keep watching... they light

            Tom,

Keep watching... they light up all the time. My kids were pretty shocked.

All in all a great package, however. The episodes look so good I only wish some of the stories/acting were better.

I was amazed at how virtually every episode on the first discs has a sequence lifted from the feature film. The plot circumstances are different but the action on the screen is the same recycled footage. Kids noticed that too!
            Warm regards,

            Paul Crozier

              Howdy Mr. Dougherty!

Waiting for my free shipping/no sales tax DVD order to arrive. Should be any day. . . (Smoking or non-smoking?)

Meanwhile, rest assured MY Seaview, when eventually finished, will sport scribed missile hatch "hinges" and a scribed "safety track" -- all the rage of subs of the era, I'm lead to understand.
