Wanted Type 7 U-boat or ???

Hello Gentelmen.
Perhaps I have been too restrictive in only wanting a U-Boat, and money is an issue.
I want to build a "Flat Deck" WWII-ish submarine and I want most of the deck and rivit / panel details molded in.
In general I enjoy building the mechanics but don't have the time to fabricate all those small details.
Should I get the Revell 1]dave@elsey.ca

Dave,
for the money you want

Dave,
for the money you want to spend, I would (if it were me - which of course it isnt) buy the revell type vii and go from there.
Although I have not got one myself, I have seen various builds of this kit on the net and it does lend itself to superdetailing (quite nicely). There is an etched brass deck for example, available from
www.Modelbrass.com
As for the wtc, I have an otw type vii & wtc so I cannot comment on the 2" wtc's available for this purpose, but that said they both look good to me.

And Norbert Bruggen's offering]www.modelluboot.de

Furthermore, I think these threads make for good reading]WTC's for the revell type VII

Dave Welch's WTC for the Revell type VII

... and perhaps most importantly...

Revell VII U-boat RC conversion

Hope all of this info helps,

oh, and if you decide

oh, and if you decide to save up for the OTW here is a shameless plug for Bob Dimmack's product.

You can see the progress I have made on my otw build by clicking the link at the bottom of my posts. I've got nearly 1000 hits!!!

Lastly, Engel from Germany now produce a really cool looking type VII kit.

Perhaps this post should be moved to another section, where it will likely get a better response.

I'll echo what Paul said. I will add that I think the Revell model makes for a fantastic looking boat straight from the box, without any add ons.

That said, although about three feet long, it looks tiny when you see one in the flesh, so to speak. So bear that mind, if you're hoping for something that looks impressive on the water.

I built my boat last

Dave
I built my boat last summer and fall,I used a few of the aftermarket parts that are out there for the Revell 1/72 boat. The M/B deck is a fine choice, very nice but hard to work with for the R/C VERSION,WarHammer Models for the C/T conversion,Steve Nutall for the prop shafts and props, and last but not least Big Daves WTC conversion kit.I also used a few items from Mikes SubWorks. The radio I bought locally, which is an AirTronics VG 600.Total cost, just over $ 1,100.00.
I was new to this abouit 1 1/2 yr. ago and still am a novice submariner.I did a lot of research on prices, quality, and my own workablity of parts and the best that I found was BIG Daves WTC.I can`t say enough about dealing with Dave Welch and Mike from Mikes SubWorks. These guys really helped out when I had problems, which I had a few of,"my own making of course from not being sub smart" The guys from The SubCommittee were also a big help as I got a lot of good advice here. You can`t go wrong with the the Revell boat and Daves ROG connversion kit.

Well, as far as I am aware,

M/B = Modelbrass (the etched brass deck).

C/T = Conning tower (or 'fin' if you like).

ROG = ??????????? (I would also like to know! Bet its dead simple).
