    Engel Magnetic switch - Comments

    Hi
Just hooked one of these up to my Robbe U47 conversion it does work but the magnet has to almost touch the switch before it activates/deactivates.
Has anyone used one of these on the U47 conversion and if so where is the best place to position the switch.
Thanks in advance for your help with this.
    Regards Julian

    I wanted to purchase one

I wanted to purchase one for my Engel lafayette, but was advised not to. I was told a few people have had problems with the magnet shifting causing power shutdown while under sail.

It was enough to keep me from installing one, but maybe those folks that had this occur did not install them properly.

    Anyone out there using one?

      Never had a problem with

Never had a problem with one.
      Used many of them.
I do not see how it would be possible not to install them correctly, it is like plugging a simple switch in an electric circuit nothing more.

About the magnet power, what magnet do you use ? I did not use the little one supplied with the switch (looks like a coin) but a much bigger one.

        What do you

        Hi Antoine -
What do you turn on and off with the Engle magnetic switch? Can it handle full battery voltage or do you need a relay?

I am using a very cheap proximity switch"$1.50"from ALL ELECTRONICS that is waterproof.I turn to system on/off with a tiny powerful magnet and love it,never had a problem with it.Just place the magnet on the deck in the right spot and go.Simple and cheap.

            Hi
            Don't have a problem

            Hi
Don't have a problem with the switch as regards wiring up or it's function, it does work I am using the magnet suplied by engel. My problem is with the range of it because no matter where i position it inside the watertight cylinder i don't think I'll be able to get the magnet close enough for it to operate it because of the outer hull.
            Regards Julian.

              ...wouldn't it make more sense

...wouldn't it make more sense from a safe operations perspective to use the magnet to turn off the power?
