    Clippard valve problems

    Hey anybody,
I`m having some problems with my Clippard valve. It won`t release the pressure from the air bladder that it controls,I can hear it clicking when I signal it to blow, but no air is moving. The bladder won`t deflate unless I disconnect it from the system.

    First check that valve is

First check that valve is open when power is supplied to it. Then check that no tubing is pinched off by other equipment. Then check that there is not excessive pressure built up in your WTC when operating valve to deflate bladder.

      I did check the valve

I did check the valve and it is not open when power is applied, none of the hoses are kinked as the hoses are hooked in a straight type of a connection.I can hear something in there clicking when power is applied but that is all that happens.I did soak it good internally with penatrating oil,and plan on letting it soak all nite.If I decide on opening it up,what can I expect to find in there. In other words "can I screw up anything in there by opening it up" The pump seems to be working well,it inflates the bladder, but it just won`t deflate.

        Clippard valves have some kind

Clippard valves have some kind of rubber seal that is ruined by some types of oil and solvents. Perhaps that is the problem. You might want to change over to a modified Schrader (tire) valve, operated by a servo cam, to release the air from the bladder. That is what I use in the RCABS, in place of the Clippard valve.

          I got tired of replacing

I got tired of replacing corroded Clippard valves. I know lots of guys have had good luck with them, but I wasn't one of them

I went over to servo operated tire valves too. Cheaper and indestructable!

              Hi TD,
              As with most things

              Hi TD,
As with most things preventive maintenance is the key. I have been running two Clippards in the wet in my Nautilus for over six years now with no problems. Once a year I take the valve body off the solenoid end and clean and put a coating of Stuph inside and out. You are only running air and the valve is inside the WTC, it should not be a problem. I am running CO2 in the Nautilus. It is a very simple device. As long as the diaphragm is in correctly it should work. If it is clicking you know the solenoid is working. The Schrader system is a good one too. I have that in a lot of my subs. The only thing with that system is you have to run a separate MPD for the servo. The SES-3 has one built in. They are both good systems. BD.

                I always had trouble

                BD -
I always had trouble with the Clippards corroding and rusting. I guess I should have use some Stuph.

In fact one almost burned down my Hunley. I had it sitting on the display table after a run and had left it on while I was talking to one of the sub vets. All of a sudden John Schagane pointed to the model and said "Man, look at those SPARKS!"
I took the Clippard out and replace it with a tire valve and Art Broders RCABS the next week!

Sparks Tim, Cool! Where did you get sparks? That's a new one. Must have been a malfunctioning Flux-Capacitor. BD.

Is it like Love Potion #9 or what.I checked the Clippard last nite after about 12 hrs of soaking internaly with CRC,still no good I guess I`ll have to tear it apart tommarow. I`d like to know where you guys come up with all these magic potions that you have!I thats what it takes to be a SUB GOD

                      This stuff (Stuph) is hard

This stuff (Stuph) is hard to come by. I am not sure it is made any more. It is great stuff, Yuck-Yuck! I purchased this at the Toledo R/C show 20 years ago. It is the best thing for keeping things safe from water. They used to have a servo running under water coated in this stuff in the display. BD.

                        Well if I can`t get

Well if I can`t get any how about if I use some Permatex Dielectric Tuneup Grease.I have been using this stuff for years to waterproof and lubricate electrical connections of all sorts. Also while we are discussing the problem do you think I could install an inline moisture filter like used in an air brush to rid myself of this problem .

                          I would give the grease

I would give the grease a try. Sounds like the same type of Stuff, or STUPH! BD.
