12V Ballast pumps - Seeking source - Ballast pumps - Seeking source

    Hi Subs,

Im looking for a great ballast pump, and a great bow thruster, both for 12V.

I have tried to contact Mikes Subworks (mike@mikessubworks.com) about the bow thruster (ABP Ballast Pump), but Havent heard anything from him. So where can I pumps for my submarine. Are there any OEM shop for different pumps, or anything other pages I should look.

    Best Regards

      Do you want to pump

Do you want to pump water or pump air?

Are you pumping into a sealed tank, or a vented one?

All makes a difference to the ideal selection of pump.

        Hi Andy, Thanks for replying.

Im seeking a replacement for my car windscreen sprinkler pump, as there must be something more powerfull.

I pump Water into a sealed container, so the out pressure are important.

I have an electronic valve shutting off the connection when pump not operating.

          Hi Kim,
          As for pump

          Hi Kim,
As for pump for ballast tank..

If you look for high pressure water pump, try Kavan geared pump.

I tested it in my closed cell ballast tank (like Sheerline/ Eden /OTW dive system). That pump could fill about 80% of tank volume, which means pump can stand approx 5 Bar. Problem is, under this high pressure, seal (lip) between gears and DC motor will leak. You need pressure switch. Or, you can reduce pressure of compressed air by connecting top of ballast tank to other part of WTC.

I heard that OTW uses this trick (thanks for this info, Jeff).

            Thanks for the great link.

It is very nice that you have experience with these pumps. How fast do they fill the ballast tank. I seem to remember these gear pumps to be too slow, but I guess everything is relative. And the slower, I guess its faster to determine the equilibrium.

And are they able to keep the pressure in the ballast tank, as they are gear pumps. I have a valve for now, and would just like to know if it is possible to omit this valve for weight reasons.
