I want to add some periscops, antennas etc.. on the tower of my USS Albacore but im not sure what those things look like or where to get them. I want it to look like a more moder sub with all those instruments on the tower but im not even sure if the Albacore had those things. Will it look silly if i add them even though it never had it?
What can i put on the tower of the Albacore? - As in radar antenna, periscope etc...

Here is the mast arrangements

Here is the mast arrangements of USS Albacore (AGSS-569) in her phase IV guise from one of my Bureau of ship drawings of her. The masts remained pretty much the same over her career. The only real shift was to the tear drop LF RDF shifted forward in phase 4. This was done for better streamlining as Albacore's top underwater speeds (from 7,500 Shp to 15,000 SHP with the new contra props) was increasing dramatically her speeds (27 knots to 43+ knots). Originally this mast was the farthest aft on the sail's center line in Phase's I-III, but depicted in this phase IV drawing it was moved forward just aft of the bridge clamshell doors. This way, it could be hinged, and folded down manually under the bridge clamshell covers.
Albacore always had only one periscope (search), retractable radar, several of the new (now common place) streamlined electronic antennas (WHICH ALBACORE INTRODUCED). Albacore had the normal air induction within the sail aft, but never used a snorkel (this almost caused Albacore's loss in 1972 when she was in a fierce Hurricane off the Atlantic coast. The sail swamped constantly, her diesels unable to re change her exotic silver zinc batteries without sucking in sea water. That was a close one).
The sail rudder was re-introduced in Phase III-V. It was absent in her phase II appearance (Phase II is the kit standard chosen). This sail rudder displayed a longer chord, subtlety altering the sail's silhouette, making the entire sail look slightly longer. This is the present sail silhouette you see Albacore today at the museum.
I had the privilege of making the Albacore masters for Skip kit (1/60 scale). Tom Anderson provided the lathe for the hull work at his shop. Casing, final work, and scale fidelity was my responsibility.

There are (or where) images
There are (or where) images of my Albacore, but I can no longer find them in the SC website archives.
Mast arrangement is like a skinny 'Y'. The top of the 'Y' closest to the bridge. The two top points are the ECM masts, where the center of the 'Y' comes together, is the Periscope, the base of the 'Y' is the radar mast location. Simple, can't help you further...I won't build it for you.

Sorry, I appologize. I had
Sorry, I appologize. I had to remove it from my website breaking the URL address because I needed badly to save memory space for my other research. I had it up for a little under 3 weeks. I can email it to you. I plot a North American UFO map plot for MUFON.
http://forums.uforesearcher.com/cgi-bin....#000000
It shows ufo and entity sightings each month (in the hundreds each month looking for patterns and concentrations of effort) - I am the only one in the world publicly anyways doing this on monthly basis, as part of a research project - one you might say that deals again also with 'foreign technology'. It has turned out to be an important and demanding project from several UFO data bases. The volume of reports is staggering, you know...a phoenominon everyone says that does not exist. lol Thats it straight. Steve Reichmuth

Hey Steve - do you
Hey Steve - do you miss X-files as much as I do? The old X-files with Scully and Mulder that is. For some reason the combination of the writing, direction and chemistry of the actors just couldn't be duplicated.
BTW - to avoid taking up room on your own site to be able to post photos on the SC site - you can post images on free upload sites like Image Shack http://imageshack.us/ to use for for images here. Just go to Image Shack, upload your picture and viola - you have your photo postable on this site. If anyone wants a step by step how to - let me know.
And if any of you non-believers out there don't think subs and aliens go together - The Truth is Down There!

Tim,
They do go together. Remember,
Tim,
They do go together. Remember, there was an episode of X-files where Mulder was trapped on the U.S. sub with that ugly alien guy? And he got thrown out at the north pole, and the sail fins came down and nearly crushed him as it submerged back through the ice. I remember thinking it must have been a Sturgeon class with sail fins like that. So see, they do go together. If it was on X-files, it has to be true, right?
