Battery source for a cellphone

I was digging around in the kitchen tonight when I found both of our old Nokia cell phones, both have a Lipo battery and 3.7V and a very small case.. Hmmm I was thinking I wonder if this can be used in a small boat or sub? Anybody every tried to use one and what should I be careful about outside of making sure I use the correct charger..which I have..which those batteries.

Any Ideas?

My guess is that they would work if wired correctly and waterproofed.Don`t hold me to it though, I run a Lithium-ion 7.4 volt storebought battery in my ROG boat.

the use of a lipo

the use of a lipo in a sub or boat is common place now... the problem i see with using that specific cell phone battery is the voltage. very few BEC ESCs will feed the proper voltage to the receiver if the input voltage from the battery is lower than 6 volts.

I picked up a very

I picked up a very cheap"LESS THAN $2.00"voltage regulator from Radio Shack that does a fine job for my setup.The output is 6.1v which is just rite for my Airtronics 600A micro receiver.It is also very tiny to fit in a very cramped WTC. The Radio Shack number is 276-1770 or 7805+5VDC Voltage Regulator,1 amp.

With a max battery charge

With a max battery charge the highest that I have seen is 8.2v,then after it settles down, 7.2v till recharge.I can`t tell you what it is drawing when my battery is down because I`ve never checked it at that point.But I can say that I`ve pulled it lower than the advised"5.5v",and everything kept operating including the receiver.Dave Welsh is my hero for letting me know about that little gem .And if I can do it you know that it is simple .
