        The only thing that 'detracts'

The only thing that 'detracts' from that model looking like the prototype is the deck slots not allowing the water to drain. Mario did good!

            Mike,

Yup.....some of the IID's and at least one of the IIB's were fitted with the shroud.

Looking at the photos some more, I am wondering why Mario placed a IIB conning tower on a IID hull. So far the information I've been able to collect doesn't show that early style tower on that hull. Anyone know?

              @ jeff

only U16 and U 18 were fitted with the shroud, because for testing this shroud. After the test there was build on every type IID this one have the saddletanks belive me. There conning tower is rigth there was also diffrent types with an another WINTERGARTEN. Have a look in the BOOKLETT " Vom Original zum Modell" Uboottyp II.

I am simply at a loss of words here...

This is modelling to the point where it becomes a work of art.

I am but a newbie, but these shots has really broadened my horizon, as to how perfect the illusion can become...

                        Still amazed...

                        Just my 2 cents.

                          the only thing that gives

the only thing that gives away the fact that these are models is the size of the water droplets coming off the tower, periscope, etc...unfortunately, you can't miniaturize the ocean.

Mario's models are absolutely spectacular, and his photos really add to the overall effect. That's one of the nicest XXIII's I've ever seen.

His Type II is pretty spectacular too, although I guess I would have expected the later "D" tower with the hull he has along with a Kort nozzle. I didn't know that any early IIs had that "option".

                            well,

you could consider sailing in alcohol.
That would also do quite a bit for the hobby to become
                            a mainstream one.

Who lends his pool for a little experimentation ??
