I know it's not a sub but I remember earlier this year that somebody here was working on the Revell model of the S-100 1/72 kit.. I have finished mine and will be testing it out with full photos coming soon..
Micro Glass has recently releases a 1]S-100[/url].
I used to run model boats with the owner of Micro Glass (Karl) when I lived in WNY. (I was just starting off...had a Lindberg PT-109...)
He has one of the most beautiful Schnellboots I have ever seen done...It was the old 32nd P hull, with just about everything replaced on it except the hull itself. Beautifully weathered, it had 3 motors in it, and Karl used the trim tabs on his radio to kick in the outside motors to make that boat scream.
I'm using a single engine /single prop, the motor is from a small airplane and it's perfect for the job..could have used a 280 motor but this motor is so light! just got 98% painted now, went with a off white and dark naval gray...and flat black bottom..
Internally I'm using the feather HS-55 servo and the ESC-01 controller and a Hitech ranger III reciever.. right now it's powered by 4 AA batteries 2300Nimhs which I need to bump up to 6 AA's
so I get a good run time.. I might just go with AAA's of the same type..just for weight savings.
I was working on the S100; but work stopped due to lots of barrel orders taking up all my time
I used the Radio shack mini car parts for the RC
I'll get back to it this winter
I know the feeling of having to stop on a project for months and then pick it back up months later.. I hope the weather is kind enough Saturday to let me take some pictures and do some runs
on the pond. I do need a better battery pack..I'm going to run 4.8V
for testing...then again..maybe not..
I used the 4AA batteries but I'm about to switch over to 8 AAA for the weight and more voltage.. for now she's going to be a test bed for another project that's been sitting completed but no electronics for 3 years.. a 1/400 scale of the Prinz Engen!
try 5 sub A; 6V should make it go better; plus trim her alittle more stern deep; mine rides nice; but there is no superstruct yet; have to watch the weight
I found that running with 8 AAA will last about 20 minutes but that was with Alky batteries...so I now have the Nhims which are the 850Mah and I hope to see a longer runtime.
The weight saving was slight..pulled up the facts sheets.. both battery packs are showing as .4 ounce but I broke it down evem more by looking at grams.. my 8 pack AAA are 94-98 grams while the 4 pack AA's are 112 grams.
I will run this for awhile and see how well it holds up.
