    Sub run at Balboa Lake

Well you guys missed a good time. We had a blast. Water was not very clear this time out. We had no problems other than my Type 7 going dead but Dave Manley of Small Worlds came to the rescue with his big layette with great skill and pushed the type 7 back to shore. I had a bad battery connection, that was all.

Steve Vick and Dave Manley brought some very nice boats that were a thrill to watch. One of Steve's had a sound card in it that made the diesel sounds and the bells and alarms. Very nice Steve.

I assuming a lot of folks decided not to come because of the heat. But on the lake it was quite pleasant.

Thanks to shawn for helping to get the folks here. He did a lot of phone calls and he ran his very good running Albacore. Also thanks to Rick G for coming and bringing his famous clear boat with the huge TX!

Here's some pictures from the day. We will do this again on the third weekend of August. Forgot to mention Kmot did show up with his beautiful PT boat. Awesome Tom. It was great to meet you. Sorry I didn't get any pictures. I will next time.

    Steve

Looks like you guys had a good time alright...Nice pictures. I love the S-boat since they are my favorite class especially the long hull version like the S-51, etc.

Any chance of more info and pictures of it?

        Thanx again Steve for setting

Thanx again Steve for setting this run up, we had a great time. S-33 was running great (I guess I have the bugs worked out) Your small scale boats were an absolute marvel.

          Yep,

The S-33 was a big hit. I just loved all the sounds it could make and how well you could here them. It worked flawlessly.

What is the history on your boat. I believe you said it was a scratch job.

Any idea's on making this monthly? The every third weekend of the month sounds fun. Want to show off the 598 next month.

          Steve

P.S. Virg. thanks a lot. We did have a ball. Steve will have to fill you in on the S boat.

              John,

Might it be by the 20th? Love to see you out here. I sure hope it's not 101 in the shade like today. I won't even test in my pool on a day like this.

              Thanks BTW,

                HI,

                Here's some background on the S-33;
The hull was purchased from Matt Spade as far as I know it was the only one made. I worked from drawings for S-23 and photos on the hazegray.org website. She is a short hull Holland type S-boat. All the fittings were made by me with exception of the ships wheel and the deck gun. the main deck is natural wood with a dark teak stain and 3 washes of grimy black. All the appendages were made by me by shaping laminated Sentra (although Matt provided very nice masters for those parts).
The WTC is my own design using Small world Models end caps as a starting point. I utilised a Sanyo batt operated blood pressure cuff for ballast control. The radio is a Robbe F-14 Navy with the 4+4 expander and a 6 channel Navy sound module. Working functions; Bow Planes, Stern Planes, Rudder, Twin throttles, ballast control, Sounds (diesel, 2 horns 2 alarms) Bow plane rig out, Torpedoes firing (x2) and lights.
I have had the most fun building this boat, it has such an early industrial look to it! To quote the late Indian Larry " I love the mechanicalness of it".
Thank you for the interest in my boat, I am very proud of this one.
