    You will have a problem

You will have a problem with using the same radio for boats and planes as they are on different freq. Boats 75MHZ and planes 72MHZ. I only know of one radio that can do this, the Futaba CAP-9. You can plug in different RF sections to switch from 72 to 75. It is not cheap, but it is a nice radio. Dave.

Dave is right thats the only option but I caution your to heed this quote from David Merriman
"the fcc giveth and the fcc taketh"
keep in mind your signals cna cause other models in your area to act erratically and potentially cause severe damage or injury

        you will have problems only

you will have problems only with the law by using the same frequency for both surface and airborne vehicles...unless you run 50 MHz or 27Mhz.

          As for the transmitter itself,

As for the transmitter itself, I do not think it has to be too fancy.
A four channel is enough. I have one of Dave's wtc kits and work on the hull as a secondary project.
I plan to use the Futuba Skysport 4 channel I had origionally bought for my Alfa. The Alfa mutated into a true torpedo boat requiring extra channels. I got another transmitter for it, and have this Futuba sitting here. Hmmmm, a match!
Following Dave's parts list, you will be using a smaller RX in the WTC. Four channels is all that is needed.
The cost of a Futuba is very reasonable. Around $150.00.
And, it is avalible to order through Tower Hobby online with the non offending 75 mhz

I use to ahve the Robbee F 14 Submarine radio and also the Multiplex computer radio and I just had too many radios for my suface boats, and submarines, and aircraft etc I finall sold all of them and bought the Futaba CAP 9 PCM I can change modules for the surface and aircraft 72mhz and 75 mhz and program up to 16 different boats or planes into memory I can also set servo end throw on all my boats and planes and it remembers all of this so make it easy to switch between boats and planes and different boats ( submarines, tugboats, sailboats, and aircraft) Set up is easy and and you do not have to be a computer genius to set this thing up and someon also makes a boodk out on how to set it up as well and it is really nice to read and have full understanding on what this radio can do So after using numerous radios the Robbee F14 the ACe nautical Commander, the Airtronics 6 channel , and the Multiplex Cockpit computer radio I settled with the Futaba CAP 9 and have had it now two years and love it more each time I use it so that is my thoughts Dr Dave

To operate on 50 MHz you'll need a Ham radio license. The lowest grade is Technician, and requires that you pass a 35 question test. I have my Ham license and am installing a Ham redio in my 1]http://www.dionysusdesign.com/Shadow1.shtml#Pictures[/url] .

                      Hi Guys,
Since we have moved a little in to the receiver side I have a new one I and some others in Subron-8 have been testing. It is manufactured by Novak and is called the Xxtra. It is available on 75 MHZ and is synthesized so it needs no crystals. It will also work with negative and positive pulse systems. It is five channel and is small enough to fit even in the smallest WTC's. It works really well in subs because it is designed for R/C car use where a lot of electrical noise is generated. We have had great luck with them so far. Plus the price is right. You can also buy them remanufactured even cheaper. http://www.teamnovak.com/products/recei ... ra_new.htm Dave.

                        I've been using a Novak

I've been using a Novak Xxtra for about 2 years in my Skipjack. I haven't had any problems with it.
