    Launching missiles

    having read a few atricals on how to build missiles and torpedo's have decided to build them into the typhoon that i am building. The torpedo's look easy to build as there is no cover to open to fire them but with the missiles i have not found any information on how the missle hatches are opened before you fire the missiles. if any one has any information on how to open the hatches, it would be very welcome

      Both Wayne Frey and I are at about the same stage of construction on our 96th scale Typhoons. If you're interested, we'd be happy to share our progress with you and work out the details together.

      My own project should (gods willing) have fully operational missile hatches and two or four functioning missiles. You can see where I'm at by clicking here (Bob's Typhoon pages).

          Matt Spade put his missile doors loose on a hinge so they would float up and open when the sub submerged. Worked well as evidenced in Ray Mason's 1995 SubRegatta Video. I have a few photos of Matts setup on my website at

              My Typhoon already had

              My Typhoon already had working hatches when I got it. I gutted the entire kit and starting over.
              It had a servo mounted under the upper deck that swung open the hatches.
              I may try to cheat there and figure some way to put everything on one channel. Maybe put the hatches to open early with servo activation, and launch on full throw of the servo. Something like that.
              I have a long way to go before I get to that. It will be close to last. Right now I am measuring and marking off to do what Bob has done on the stern section. I love the Copeland hull, but the stern is wrong.
              What type kit are you building?
              I plan to base the fundamental design of the missle themselves from the torpedo concept of Jedi- Master Merrimen.

                  that should make working out the hatch's easier
                  wayne im building the typhoon from scratch as living beyound the black stump in western australia things are a bit more expencive here so have decided to build all that i can myself to try and cut down the cost lol
