    Launching Torpedeos

Last nite while working on my new boat I became inspired .Has anybody tried to fabricate a system to shoot torpedeos for the ROG 1/72 boat yet.Maybe it would be a stretch, because of space requirements, but I WAS JUST THINKING," could be dangerous"

      Hi,

      I built a ROG type

      Hi,

I built a ROG type VII using the Small World Models wtc, and I found that there was plenty of space in the bow for at least 2 tubes. I think it should be easy enough to do. I build my Torps so that the nozzle fits into an O ring at the breech end of the tube. The nozzle is simply a small brass tube which extends halfway into the torp body to restrict flow. The O ring connects to a tire valve through which I can fill the torp with propel. A simple lever in the breech (actuated by servo) pops the torp off the O ring and off it goes. I do this with 1/32 and 1/48 scale torps, I see no reason why it wouldn't work with 1/72 scale. Dave merriman uses the same torp design in 1/96 scale and uses air pressure to launch. He has made every tube in an Akula and I beleive a 1/96 Skipjack work in this way. I say give it a try, I would but I gave that boat away.
      Good luck,
      Steve

          I never built tubes into

I never built tubes into that boat, but the space is there aplenty. I could send pictures of the install in one of my larger boats but they are far larger (even though the concept is the same). Anyway I am at sea and cant send any pic's.
Look up some of the old articles by David Merriman for a workable torpedo design in that scale.
          Take Care,
          Steve
