    Motorless drive system :-)

I was cleaning my Koi pond out the other day when I was thinking about the pump and how it pumps water, the only moving part is the prop and it's magnetic or the shaft has something magnetic on it to forces it to spin.. So by using a coil and the shaft , could it be possible to use it for a smaller model sub?(or a larger one!)
something to think about don't you think?

    Definitely been done before to

Definitely been done before to good effect.

Tom Yourk has used pumps in his Nautili for a while now, with great performance.

If I'm not mistaken, Dave Merriman also used them in his Flying Sub project as well.

6 or 12V bilge pumps seem to be the pumps of choice...

      Bob,

      Dave used a shrouded prop

      Bob,

Dave used a shrouded prop with stators- a pump jet, for the thrusters on his FS1.

TBC, the pumps you are referring to are simply lowtech centrifugal pumps.

I use a small aquarium pump in my computer (self built water cooled system, keeps the machine cool and is nice and quiet!). They work well enough, but I think it would be easy to improve on the efficiency of these things.

I think that Rick Teskey has used similar pumps in his proteus and FS1.
