Revell Type VII& SWM RC conversion

Hi Y'all,

I am very nearly done with the test and evaluation of the new Small World Models 2 inch WTC as fitted into the Revell 1/72 scale Type VII U boat. The WTC seems perfectly sized for the boat bathtub tests show that very little extra weight and foam is needed.THe WTC is made in Daves signature style with the drop in servo locations and cam operated gas ballast. Plenty of room for all standard functions, plus I am certain that a clever builder could easily add something special i.e. Torpedo tubes etc... Those in Southern California who are interested I will have this boat with me at the Riverside regatta on Sunday (17 April).

I too am interested in this type VII conversion,I spoke to Dave just recently. Can the WTC be serviced and installed through the deck opening,and would in be possible to use the M/B deck or would this be to much topside weight.I had also thought about some other aftermarket additions to the hull.Also does the boat handle right.Do you have any photos of the build. .

I'd be surprised if it fits through the deck opening; mine will not; i cut the hull to make removal possible; but then mine is home made and could be longer; but it is still made of 2" tube

Yes it can and that's the way both Dave and I get the WTC in and out. It's real easy.

I cut the type VII hull at the widest point of the saddle tanks, the vertical cuts were 1/8 inch forward of the fore bulkhead and 1/8 inch aft of the aft bulkhead. The opening in the bulkheads were opened up to 2 inches and split with the hull so that they form both the cradle and holding brackets. The boat is stable on the surface with only the batery as weight, I see no problem with adding a bit more lead in the keel and a couple chunks of foam to counter the extra topside weight of a brass deck. Sunday should tell the tale of this boat as this will be her first open water trial.

Looks to me that you did a lot of surgery to the hull. After you made the vertical cuts,how far down did you go,then what,did you go horizontal across the saddle tank area and make this section removable attached to the deck or seperate from the deck.Would it be possible to squeeze the WTC down between the sides of the hull without any surgery,also how is the unit in regards to length between the bulkheads.

So this event on April 17 is mainly for tug boats? Thats what i understood from the web site (www.inlandnauticalsociety.com) Well if you are going to be there with your sub, im also going to show up with my sub. I have never put her in a lake. As a matter of fact i still have toglue the lead weights and balance it out. Best place to put the lead weights are dead center correct?

What time do you expect to be at fairmont park?
