I have 2 of the same boats that I intend to convert as well. What length and diameter tubing are you using for the WTC?? 1 inch (2.54cms)?? Is that a new propeller shaft and prop or the one that came with the kit?
You dremelled out the plastic bulkheads right to fit the WTC...
Will the WTC fit out through the hatch or will it only be removable when you under the hull halves??
Are you going to keep the stock 280 motor or put something else in the kit?
Yes i removed the bulkheads to fit the WTC inside. The lengthens of the WTC is 200mm, outside diameter 40mm, inside diameter of 36mm. No the propeller shaft is from Graupner. I don`t now if i use this shaft. I try to use a shaft seal (Simmerring) with only a stainless shaft 3mm diameter, and at the end of the hull with a stainless bearing. If i use the 280 motor? i don`t think so i rather want to use the MABUCHI 130 would have to work. Here the datasheet of the motor. The WTC fit out through the removable hull halves.
Hi Steve
i deside also never to built such small models but i can`t put them away so i start. The endcaps will need more time because some guy make them for me. So i worked today on the how is caled i think PUSH RODS please corect me because i am from Germany.
The PUSH RODS are very simple made. Pics of the PUSCH RODS coming soon.
Just checking I have actually ended up with 3 hulls of this series, 2 U-2518s and 1 Wilhelm Bauer. I intend to keep the Bauer and a U-2518 so I have a spare if anyone is interested in doing this as well. I got one of the hulls cheap (1c) on Ebay and the other for $25 bucks so I will split the difference. If someone will pay $12 or best offer, plus postage one of the hulls is theirs (no motor or wiring (hull didn't include it) but with the battery/engine compartment that comes with the model).
Yep, and I ended up with three of them. I went to Lee's Hobbies in Groton in Connecticut when I went to the Sub Museum and picked up the Bauer and U-2518 which I thought had the motors etc but weren't. They had the battery compartment etc but no motor or wiring. So I monitored Ebay for a properly motorized one with everything and got it for 0.01c plus shipping ($8-00). Talk about a bargain.... Getting this thing RC'ed should be fun activity and a XXI is a nice boat, even if this is not scale cause of the single powering prop...
Anyway, so I have three now and don't need one of the 2518's. If no one else wants it I will likely give it to Mike Shubar (if he wants it) who is doing my Seawolf WTC.
BTW I should be getting my Albacore soon. Just waiting on Mike to tell me its ready...
Have you posted some video on the Seawolf yet or are you still finishing the WTC?
Thanks Byron. No I'm held up by one stinking rotting crystal for that GWS RX.
Tom's RC has really disapointed me here because they sent me a hitec crystal that doesn't fit. I then ordered the correct GWS one from them over two weeks ago. I wrote to them last week about it and they never returned my email.
Because they are 75 mhz no one in town here even carries one so I ordered it from my LHS but it will be awhile before they get it. Not a happy camper to have a whole boat sitting for the want of a 7 dollar part. It's all done except for that. Has been for quite awhile.
Wow wow wow where did you get that from, Japan i guess, by the manuals.
I think have scuba dived onto one of those subs in PNG, The main dive was actualy a merchant ship called the Taisho Maru, about 20m to the sand. The Sub was believed to have been on deck of the Taisho and rolled off when the ship was sunk, or sinking. The sub was about 50m from the main wreck (good job i kept good notes).
