series and parallel circuits gel cel

has anyone tried this with gel cells
I need two differant voltages for a project
6 for the motors and rc gear and 12 for the sound system from ram I tried this and got good voltage in parallel but a negative 0 reading in series help anyone

Ed great to hear from you again I iknow I can always get a lesson in humility when it concerns electric stuff
but a lesson learned is gold
I had thought of the doubler would work but after careful consideration and complete lack of space in the robbe dug though the books and read up on series parallel andthought this fits the bill perfectly if I ruin into a new problem insert head hitting table top
