    More Robbe Type XXI stuff

    Hi Y'all,

Salt water trials are done, the addition of a 1 ft whip antenna allowed great reception so long as at least 1/2 inch protruded from the surface. I added a third 3,000 milliamp NcMH pack for a total of 9,000 milliamps for drive and a further 2,100 pack dedicated to the piston tank. I ran her for 3 hours at no less than 1/3 bell, she still had a substantial charge at the end of the run. I moved more weight forward and added a bit of foam in the bow, this has cut the turning circle down by 1/3. She exhibits great stability when submerged even at flank bell, she has a tendency to rise in a turn this is due to the flat deck area. I dial in a slight down angle as the turn starts and this keeps her flat in the turns. No "foil roll" observed, probably due to the rather wide (athwartships) sail. I have reckoned her speed to be about 10kts at flank bell based on a 100 ft speed course. She is a fun boat to run, needs a lot of space though!

Steve, Glad to hear your type XXI is working well for you.
Nice size also. It must be nice to have so much space in
the WTC to add all those batteries. Good idea having a
seperate battery pack for the piston tank. Have you run
in fresh water other than Santee Lakes? So whats your
    next project going to be?
    Regards, Brian

My next project will be to complete the S-33 (1/48 scale S-boat) and I am building a 1/32 scaleType XXIII for a friend in L.A.
When I am done with those I plan a 1/48 scale Type VII.
