Started my RC conversion of ROG 1/72nd

I have started the conversion to RC

Here is the forward battery compartment test fit

I finally settled on 1 of 2 options 3 rows of AA NiMh like this
or 3 1100mAh NiMh D cells; any suggestons guys

The hull is big inside; i could simply make 2 pop cans fit together (they can take quite a pressure inside not sure about underwater)

I might just use 2" PVC poolpipe; with custom machined plugs with O-ring seals
As some know i make CNC cut barrels; so stuff like a WTC will be childs play

thats my main page; there is a UBoat page linked to the main

I'm sure going to have fun in my 40ft pool with this Uboat and my Snowberry

      Hi Steve
Not sure about the battery, but, I would not count on that soda can taking much external pressure. Give a try, but I would recommend using the PVC pipe with custom machined end plugs.

      Just my 2 cents

      Mike

Yeah i pretty much thought it wouldn't

but you know; they take a good pressure when they get shakenup

Like soda bottles; the big 2 liter; i have placed dry ice in them with a bit of water; they hit 120lb/sq in before the let go; makes a huge boom and scares the #### out of the other workers around you; LOL

          opening up the flood holes

I used a carbide burr; it will not plug up if your run at the slowest speed of the Demel; the flex shaft makes it easier

I found with this much light coming through; opening up with a small rat-tail file is very easy

            Steve,

You need to take a look at Dave Welch's WTC made especially for this boat.

I have one of his set ups and it's the only way to go.

            david_w43@yahoo.com

here's his email. I have built his Kilo WTC and now the Type 7. For 75 bucks you can't beat it anywhere. He supplies you with a CD with tons of pictures and lists of all the equipment used and where to get them from.

The design is for static diving too. I found out the hard way that the Type 7 is a very bad dynamic diver not unless you want to travel at very high speeds to dive. Not very scale.

Just my two cents but two good ones.

            Steve

              I'm not to worried about

I'm not to worried about scale speed; this and Snowberry are pool toys for me and the little girl to mess with; I'm seeing/building an interest with her
I also have a SIG Kadet to try her with flying; i was influenced at a young age to be a modeler

If I need to build something scale; I'll pop back to the 1/48th Yamato i have started
Rachel is not interested in that because it is a slow build; this isgoing fast like Snowberry; kids like to see progress

              Thanks for the info though

I'll run my antenna wire through to the hull anyways

                      Charley,
Yes he does and it is quite a kit. I don't have mine installed as of yet, I'm just finished up opening all those holes on the hull halves. Lots of hand work drilling and filing.
I going to hit Dave up pretty soon for his Kilo kit.

Ok I started into the WTC
2 inch semi clear pipe for the workshop style central vac (normally for woodworking) comes in 36" lengths; i used this as an excuseto buy the whole package for clean up of the cnc machines hehehe

here are a few pics of where I'm up to

                        Just fits into the hull

Note; the Alum tube will carry the batteries and the push rod will come right out the middle for the dive planes; the hollow tube for the push rod will also hold the Alum tube into the front seal plug of the main compartment; as i intend to pressurize the WTC to about 14psi (1 atm/r)
This will stop water coming inand while the pressure will slowly drop I can refill between runs via air coupling coming through the lowest part of the hull; if the inner parts of the valve are removed; drainage can be made if something gets in

big and long 16"; plenty of room for "stuff"

My front seal; 59c o-ring from the local hardware store; I also got more (smaller) to seal the end of the battery compartment; the hard nylon bar waskicking around in my toolbox for a coons age; along with the Alum tube; this project is great; i'm finally using all my junk up

                            hey you got the right

hey you got the right name at birth also; never met a Steve i didn't like

The rear seal is made too; just too lazy to post a pic (plus i have a bad headach) mind a head like mine should hurt

I will keep at this while I have time; I also want to keep Snowberry going too; I want to let my mind wander on this; i find if I look at other products too much I don't create stuff as good as i can (I like to work stuff out myself) I really do think pointing out other peoples ideas is really cool; and sometimes I use part of their approch

I was thinking as this is just a pool toy and will never be more than 40ftaway; i might buy some cheapo delux thing from say Radio Shack and strip out the radio guts; add good NiMh batteries etc; who knows

                              I never really though about

I never really though about how much water pressure the pool would have at the bottom; but it is not that much

Pressure increases by .445lbs for every foot
my pool is a sports pool; max depth 4ft 3in

Might not even need to pump the WTC more than 5psi
