Well guys I was in the LHS getting some brass supplies for my subs on Saturday. As always I look through the plastic models and there it was. Thought two beats. And then I grab it. What the heck it's so cute and after seeing the other success stories I figured it would be a good weekend build while I wait on parts from Radio Shack for my Kilo.
Started at 8 pm Saturday night and by 8 pm today (Sunday) it's ready to paint and all the equipment is in and working.
Battery goes up front and that little black thing is a 5amp ESC. Feather receiver and two hs-81's just fit.
I used piano wire push rods through housing. I greased up the wire where it exits and put a nice bead of silicon over the ends. In the morning when it was dry I broke them free by moving the push rods. Now I have a push rod seal. I've done this in the past as there's really no way to get Subtec seal on this little girl. Works well.
I made a new shaft from brass for the rudder and soldered an arm to it. Pretty basic stuff. I used the rudder control arm that came with the kit and just cut it down.
I used their rubber seal but I silicone it in to the top of the model. The motor area is sealed with silicone but the control area and push rod area in the back is wet. Nose is wet too but there's nothing in there to short out or blow up so who cares. LOL
I went around and sealed everything so that the entire equipment bay is dry.
I also used the supplied 280 motor and their mount since it was very well set up. I replaced the weak rubber tube they supplied to hook the shaft to the motor shaft with Robart retract air line. Much better and won't slide off. You can get it at the LHS. I has a lot laying around from my planes.
Well I can't think of anything else I did special. As a build this little thing is fun. Parts fit together well and this one has the best set up for the motor and prop of any of the motorized sub kits I've seen to date.
I'll post pictures when I finish the paint job and weathering. Then video of the sub in operation in the old pool.
