Robbie U47 WT Compartment - Are there Spares Available ?

This is my first post to the Message Board - so here goes.

Two years ago, as a prop in giving up smoking, I bought a Robbe U47. As some projects go, I sort of went at it in fits and starts eventually completing the model last October.

Before I finally launched the model, in a moment of madness, I inadvertantly over- tightened the dreaded threaded screw. As a result, the interior virtually disintegrated. In addition, a large part of the bulkhead which supports the O Ring broke off.

I have tried time and again to fix the problem using just about every adhesive in the known galaxy but with singular lack of success.

I have emailed Robbe to enquire if the parts are available for purchase separately - they did not deign to reply.

Can anyone please suggest where I might obtain the parts ?? or, indeed, suggest an alternative remedy.

I've managed to stay off the evil weed despite the above!

    Thank you

    Hi John,

I suggest contacting Al Matava of Ships n' Things. Al is a large robbe U-47 distributor for North America and can get parts! It may take a bit of time....but it's possible.

Plus, Al is one of our strongest SubCommittee supporters!

I'm surprised that Robbe did not return your enquiry. I telephoned and followed my request up with an email to give address details. I think it was Her Mock I spoke to. Anyways I only wanted one part, but they sent me the entire sheet, free of charge!
Perhaps they cannot keep up with such requests anymore as this was over 2 years ago. I did however have an interesting conversation regarding the U47 and where they where going next. I suggested that in my view an electro boat would lend itself well to vac forming. He did say that the U47 had been one of their most successful products todate. No doubt they had many requests for either a XXI or XXIII. I like to think I nudged them on a little...LOL

          Another suggestion.

Norbert Bruggen supplies aluminium baynet lock rings. These aren't cheap, but would provide a solution to your problem.

It would do away with the threaded screw, and provide a more sturdy sealing ring.

          Take a look here

            Thanks Akula and Subculture.

Ill re-email Robbie - perhaps it was lost in the Christmas rush?

As for the bayonette fitting - I suspect it may well be beyond my modest skills but thank you for the suggestion.

As a post-script to the above,

Robbe modellsport have now replied (a very pleasant Ms Gisela Kirchner) she has quoted replacements at a very reasonable Euros 34.42 plus shipping

I'll let you know how long it takes to send from Austria to Northern Ireland.

The ordered pieces arrived yesterday - 8 Feb 05

I'm very impressed by both the helpfulness and promptness of the folk at Robbe.
