As mentioned in the recent prior RCABS post in this forum, I like to trim the boat to just barely negative buoyancy when the bladder is flat. Some people prefer the safety of a boat trimmed to just barely positive buoyancy when the bladder is flat. That is where the sail just barely shows above the water, as in your second example. Don't worry about when the bladder is full. This is not an all or nothing situation. When you want to surface to an ideal surface waterline, just run the pump until you reach the desired height. You don't have to fill the bladder completely. Any extra room in the bladder can be used for emergency situations, such as when gaining extra weight from a slight WTC water leak, or from tangling in a half pound of weeds. The extra bladder capacity also can help bring your sub up from a greater depth.
