    What radio?

What brand/model of radios are you guys using in the Kilo conversions or small subs?

From what I can find it looks like if you want the micro stuff, you have to buy the system and then send it in to be changed from 72 to 75Mhz.

    i'm using the Futaba 8UHFS

i'm using the Futaba 8UHFS (i think that's what it's called; it's been discontinued) tx and a GWS micro 4ch rx on my CN Alfa. both are on the 72 mhz frequency (channel 60). yeah yeah, you shouldn't use this, but i'll upgrade to 27 or 75mhz eventually.

with my tx, i can change it to a surface frequency by buying a module, but a micro receiver is still tough to find. i heard Dave Welch found a good FM micro receiver on the 75mhz frequency; made by FMA?

      Hi Gunter,
I use a Multiplex Cockpit Computer radio I had factory tuned to 75MHZ. I use the same transmitter in all my boats and subs. In the small subs I use the FMA M5 Micro-RX. It is the smallest 75 MHZ dual conversion receiver you can buy. www.fmadirect.com Dave.

        Two working subs, two different

Two working subs, two different Futaba 4 channel FM transmitters. SKIPJACK has a Futaba receiver; BARB has a Noval synthesized receiver. Working on third sub. will use one of the Futaba transmitters, and buy another Novak receiver. The FMA M5 receiver has a last good fame hold feature that does not allow the SubTech SubSafe (and probably most other similar units) missing pulse detector to work. FMA has said that the last good frame hold feature cannot be disabled in the M5. The FMA last good frame hold is designed to hold all servos in their last known position in the event of a loss of signal from the transmitter. This could be a disaster when running subs in a swimming pool, and your sub goes below the chlorine reflecting depth (where the radio signal is reflected and doesn't reach the sub). Your boat could slowly spiral into the bottom of the pool, or run full speed into the side - depending on what the last radio commands were.

          Thanks for the info Bob,

Thanks for the info Bob, I will keep an eye out for that problem. I have not seen it happen to me though, and I have been running two of the M5's in a highly chlorinated pool all summer. Dave.

Thanks for the info. I see some of the pics of the smaller subs and some of the recs look like the size of a postage stamp. Looks like I'll just have to get a 72 system and have it sent back for band change.

I have a bunch of futaba Attacks from a few years back and some Airtronics Vangard radios. Not using them for planes anymore but I'd like to get them converted.

Who out here in the LA area does the converion to 75 MHZ? Or this there some one anywhere in the US I could ship them to. Shame to let them go to waste.

I did pick up a Futaba Attack FWD the other day. Not bad for 117.00. 4 channel no real thrills but it should be fine for the Akula I'm building now.

              thanks guys,

              Steve

BTW I went to the FMA site and found the M5 but I only see it for 6m or 72 MHZ.
