Atomic subs Alfa

Hi all,

Does anyone here own an Atomic Subs Alfa?

I'm interested in how they handle, turning radius etc. Does the torque from the motor mean it only turns well one way?

The torque does not affect

The torque does not affect the turning radius. The Alfa does have a much wider turn than the US boats,mostly due to the design of the real thing. American boats use the full appendage to turn.The russian boats do not. Also, the turning radius is much larger on the surface than under the water.
The Atomic Subs Alfa is ,no the less, an excellent kit.

My Alfa was the best

My Alfa was the best running and performing sub I have owned, underwater. As Wayne stated, it takes a bit of space to turn on the surface, but it flew underwater. With all the new mods that Matt made to this model, it's accuracy and ease of building make it a very compelling choice.

I have one but yet to run it. It beautiful and very detailed.


Mine is still in the yard being constructed, but she is coming along. I would have been done if not for buying a radio that didn't work with subtech stuff so now I am in search of a new radio.

I hope you do arrange

I hope you do arrange for the Alfa to be shipped to you. I've had my Thor Alfa running now for around a year. Best sub I have ever owned. Turning was improved by keeping the weight down, and I cheated a little -I have a bolt on clear perspex lower rudder extension I put on only when shes going in the water. At high speed turns like a fighter jet, slight bank in turn, with a bit of up elevator I find I can tigheten up the turn some more.

You will love the kit Nick. Get yourself a nice set of files because you will spend the first month filing out 80 something floodholes.
