Disney "Nautilus" - looking for Disney"Nautilus" info

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any info on the "Nautilus" that was offered for retail sale by Disney? I believe it was approx. 30" long and made of resin. Is it still around? How much? Any info greatly appreciated.

It was a limited edition, and I think they were all sold before they were put on sale.

There was a lot of controversy over this model. The master was very good apparently, but a lot of the castings were poorly produced and Disney had a lot of returns.

The model was less than 30", nearer 20" and was built to 1/96 scale.

The model used the 11 foot miniature as a reference. All the Nautilus sets and models used in the motion picture differed in various details, although it takes a keen eye to notice what they are.

Some pictures, some from the Internet, some are mine. Lots of controversy. I would guess that overall most people were probably at least satisfied with the model. However there are some flaws as a result of the casting process from the overseas outfit apparently hired to manufacture the model. The original was perfect but apparently flaws developed in the mass production. I guess some had a greater expectation and others were just happy to get a reasonably good model.

        Hi again,

Thanks to "Sub culture" and "Carcharadon" for your replies. Special thanks to Carcharadon for those fine pics of the Nautilus! A friend (C. Chesney; SubComm member whose comp. is temporarily down) wants to build an R/C Nautilus, most likely by molding fiberglass hull. Any advice most welcome.

            Charles,

            Charles,

I'd be more than happy to help out anybody interested in modelling this very challenging subject. If he's interested in a smaller model, Custom Replicas might be the best way to go, especially if the builder's scratchbuilding skills are low. They offer a 30.5" long model with outstanding detail that retails for around $350 or so. For what you get, it's an outstanding value. I've seen the kit, owned one, and have another one on order. I'm hoping to R/C my Total Immersions kit as well.

Full details on my big 32nd scale model as well as my TI kit can be found on my website]www.rc-sub.com[/url].
