    K-19, Hotel Class

    Hey guys,

After watching that movie (K-19, The Widowmaker) I really wanted to build a model of the sub once I've finished my pirate ship project. I have made profile drawings from the National Geographic website, and I am still missing views from the top, bow and stern. Anybody know where I can find more photographs or plans of this sub (any other ones in the same class would do too)? I know that there might be some photos on those Russian sub websites but I can hardly understand them...

    I had the same thought

I had the same thought a while back, but couldn't even find a plastic model kit of a Hotel class I was also hoping that the book "K19: The Widowmaker" would have some good piccies/diagrams, but alas, no. Even the great book "Cold War Submarines" only has an internal layout diagram and some fairly readily-available images.

    There's some interesting stuff here:
    http://www.nationalgeographic.com/k19/s ... _sov2.html
(check the interactive time line & play the animations)
    and

(although in Russian, the pictures are fairly self-explanatory)

I hope you can find some better resources than the meagre scraps I've come up with! I'd *love* to make a R/C Hotel class, but I suspect that as it's so old and ugly (to me in a beautiful kind of way) as well as being Soviet (what I personally like modelling), no vendor is going to touch it. But if you do find enough info to build one, I'll keep a keen eye out for it!

      Thanks, from one of the

Thanks, from one of the links you gave me I actually found out that they've used an actual Juliett class sub to portray K-19 in the movie! The two are really alike except for the extra space on the conning tower and the stern. All I have for refrence now are photos and 3D image drawings found on the NG web. For me, the K-19 is really a Soviet version of the USS Nautilus in a kind of way, one is the successful one, the other is the not-so-successful one!

I meet the caretakers of that submarine while at the subron in Rhode Island. They were kind enough to give me a photo cd of that submarine.
If you would like,e-mail me and I will forward some pictures for you.

            That sub was on Ebay

That sub was on Ebay a few years ago for $1million. It was in Tampa (St. Petersburg?) at the time.

Now, look at this. You can have a Russian Whiskey class U-194 for a mere 250k Euros!
