    Wet batteries

    Dear all,
If I place my gell cell (sealed lead item) as a wet battey, do I need to seal either or both battery terminals against water? Logic suggests that I do need to, but can anyone advise me, please?

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul Brown.

    no need to seal those

no need to seal those terminals... just grease 'em up a bit with some vaseline to cut down the corrosion.... Any batts will work fine in the wet, just remove the wrapping (of nicads/nihms) to eliminate trapped air (or conversely water) which'll make trimming a challenge, and hasten corrosion of the positive terminals.

    Good luck

      I have been using batteries

I have been using batteries in my subs for a few years that are exposed to the water. You do not need to worry about shorting but I do use some Dielectric compond on the terminals to keep corrosion to a minimum. Do not operate it in salt water as that will cause problems. Fresh water is fine. Dr Dave

        Is there any reason that

Is there any reason that standard AAA batteries wouldn't work while immersed?

I've got a little "side project" going and I'm hoping to power it with 4 AAA batteries. If I could run them wet, it'd save a huge headache for me.
